NBU related error

Hi All

We have some solaris boxes, these are netbackup client.Whenever backup started for this boxes we received the below alert in the message file of the client servers for which backup is running.

bphdb[2765]: [ID 427199 user.error] pam_dial_auth: terminal-device not specifiedby login  returning Error in underlying service module.

Also would like to mention that backup for these client server never failed though.

Can you suggest a resolution/workaround on the above. This is happening only with the solaris boxes having solaris10.If you require any further info/logs I can share.

regards

Arup

  • Maybe some enhanced security measures were introduced at OS-level. The backup script normally contains 'su - db-user' to ensure the backup runs as db user and not as root. Backup started from NBU master connects to the client and starts to run backup script as root user. The actual backup can only be done by a db-user, hence the su to db-user. The entry in messages file merely looks like the 'su' event is noticed and reported. If the backups are not failing, there is nothing to be concerned about.

  • I found this post in an unrelated forum and moved it to NetBackup forum.

The error looks like a database agent backup.

    Which db agent?
    Which NBU version?

It seems that there is a problem with the backup script.

Please ask the dba on the solaris client to supply a copy of the failing script and post it here.

  • Hi Arup,

The issue you are facing is related to Authentication.

Please check below link, hope it will help ::

  • Hello ontherocks

As per the link the below is the solution

    login   auth required           pam_dial_auth.so.1

Change the line by adding a # to the beginning of the line:

    #login   auth required           pam_dial_auth.so.1

Please note that this is a change to the operating system, not NetBackup, and so must be verified with the operating system vendor for correct methodology.

But the alert which I used to receive started few weeks back & this OS configuration is since 2005.

    regards
