bpmedialist will only show information if media is 'Assigned', i.e. used for backups.

There could be valid reasons for media id P40202 not being considered for backups - such as maximum mounts or hardware expiration (media old, damaged, no longer usable). Please post output of 'nbemmcmd -listmedia -mediaid P40202'.

It a new Media, even this is not the only single media I'm facing the problem.

I have created the volume pool on the basis of weekdays like moday tuesday etc.

After completing the backup I remove it from the library and Sent it to the DR site and It come back from DR, then i Insert it again for the same weekday backup.

I tried to make an db entry as well by using bptm command, but it works only for one week and then again It gives the same error.

When the tape comes back from offsite, what is the status? If images only expire (for example) shortly before midnight, then tape will not be available when backups kick off at 6pm.

I have NEVER (in 12 years) had to do bptm -makedbentry to make a tape usable.

If a tape is in the correct pool,  not FULL, FROZEN, SUSPENDED, IMPORTED, etc, i.e Active (previously used), belongs to selected media server, is of correct ret level, then the tape will be appended to. If tape is Available (unassigned, no valid backups), no hardware expiration or max mounts, is in Scratch or in the correct pool, it will be used without further intervention.

Use 'Tape Summary Report' (with Verbose option selected) on a regular basis to monitor expiration date and time of media. Also use 'available_media' (run from cmd, output to text file) to get a better idea of what media is avaible.

Please check the media type , suppose you are using an LTO-4 tapes and you have configured the tapes as 'HCART' and the drive is also showing as HCART or not .

Check the drive details and findout the media type . Both the drive type and media type should be same .

There is chances of media type changes while doing inventory of tapes.

the status is active only. and after taking the inventory it goes to the netbackup volumepool and I manually change the volume pool as monday.

In my case every media has an retention of 1 week. Let say I took a backup on 20/12/2010 at 21:00 hrs, so the expiration should happen on 27/12/2010 at 21:00 hrs, which is the time of next weekly backup as well.

I think this is the only problem, once it expires the media, it doesnt assign to the database.What should i do in this case.???

Have you verified the media type and drive type ?

Manual backup is running properly with the same media...

Backups hardly ever kick off at exactly the expected time. You will agree that backups get queued for various reasons.  Also bear in mind that image expiration does not happen all the time - the default is every 12 hours. You should be able to see 'Image Cleanup' on a regular basis in Activity Monitor. So, even if tape is due to expire at 21:00, it will only actually expire when Image Cleanup runs.

Why not use a Scratch Pool? Why the need to 'micro-manage' media to the extent of creating separate pools for each day? As you can see, all you are 'managing' is to create unecessary headaces...

Looking at your screenshot - we can see that tape is currently available  - we don't know what the status was last night at 21:00. So, if you kick off a backup NOW that specifies STU server-hcart-robot-tld-0 and pool Mon_FI, this tape will be selected for the backup...
