Netbackup 7.5 - Status 98

Hi

This is new deployment for exchange 2010 backup

When were media is the drive the following error occur

* error requesting media (tpreq)(98)

Thanks,

Jyokumar

  • Your media density is incorrect - they are all type DLT. You will have to delete all media, add barcode rules to add media for type hcart and hcart2 (to match drive and STU types), then re-run inventory.

  • Check with event viewer does it show any events related to tape drive

    Check at your tape library or autoloader console for any events.

    Media which is requested , verify is not frozen or Full

  • So, this is a brand new installation?

    Let us first put Exchange aside and tell us about NBU configuration:

    Do you have a tape library or standalone drive?

    Please give us following command outputs (this will give us insight into your configuration).
    (Remember to open cmd with right-click, Run As Administrator)

    Device config:
    <install-path>\veritas\volmgr\bin\tpconfig -l

    Tape media:
    <install-path>\veritas\volmgr\bin\vmquery -a -bx
    (If there is lots of output, just copy a couple of lines)

    Storage Unit config:
    <install-path>\veritas\netbackup\bin\admincmd\bpstulist -U
    (must be big U)

    Policy config:
    <install-path>\veritas\netbackup\bin\admincmd\bppllist <policy-name> -U

    Please copy the text output of all of the above commands and post here.
    This should give us indication of reason for status 98.

    7/2/2012 10:09:04 PM - end Erase; elapsed time: 00:00:01
    error requesting media (tpreq)(98

  • NBU status: 830, EMM status: No drives are available

    Please double-check tape drive as well as media density. They must match.

    If tape drive density is hcart, media density must also be hcart.

    Please post output of commands that i have requested above. We should be able to assist better if we have more information.

    PS: If this is a new installation, why do you need to erase/label media?

    Thanks

  • You have..

    robot      0    -    TLD    -       -  -          -                    {5,0,1,0}

      drive    -    0  hcart    1      UP  -          IBM.ULT3580-HH4.000  {5,0,0,0}

      drive    -    1 hcart2    2      UP  -          IBM.ULTRIUM-HH5.000  {5,0,2,0}

    You say the media is denisity DLT.

    The density of the media , HAS to mach the density of the drive.

    A tape of type DLT will only be loaded in to a DLT drive.

    IF new setup than you have no backups on the tapes.  I would delete the tapes, and create barcode rules to add the tapes with the correct density.

    I guess you have one LTO4 drive and one LTO5, these are backwards compatable, so you could set these both the hcart and the media to hcart and it will then work.

    The NBU admin guide

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5157

    Shows how to create barcode rules.
