Netbackup 7.5.0.7 DAG .img filling up my disk

Hello,

We are running NB 7.5.0.7 on a Windows 2008 R2 machine.  We back up our Exchange 2010 server DAG.  The backup job creates .img and .info files that are filling up our disk on the netbackup machine.  Are these supposed to truncate after a certain amount of time?  Can they be deleted?  Thanks and please let me know if more info is need.

Regards,

George

  • You have created a Basic Disk Storage Unit where Exchange Backups are written to, right?

Hopefully you have created the DSU on a separate volume and not just a folder on the same volume as the NetBackup installation?

There are 2 factors that control the lifespan of images on disk:

    1. The retention level specified in Policy schedule
    2. The High Water Mark of the DSU IF you have configured staging to tape.

HWM is only useful if the DSU is on its own volume and if staging is configured. When the HWM is reached, NBU will cleanup oldest images that have been duplicated to tape until the LWM is reached.

  • Please read through my post above.

DSU should be on a separate volume, not on the same volume/filesystem as NetBackup installation/catalogs.

  • Thanks for the comments.  I will increase disk space as well as look at the retention policy.

  • Not catalog... These are image files on a Basic Disk Storage Unit.

  • Those files are part of the NetBackup catalog and should NOT be deleted.  Add space to the the drive or add another drive and move the files there.

  • show us the exact file names and the location it is filling?

what is the size of the disk/FS that is haivng the netbackup master data base?

are you making the GRT backup for the DAG node? what is the size of the exchange data?

generally Master server holds the image data base for the the successfull backups, and it keep the images files untill it has the valid retenction period..

master server should be preapred/large enough  to hold the images data base

if it not there, try to increase the size of the disk

alternatly you can also try archiving the images data base...
