Netbackup Accellerator and Netapp

HI

We are looking at Netbackup to replace Backup Exec, Can we use the Accelerator to help backup CIFS data on a nas filers.

At the moment we use NDMP over Fiber Channel to tape, Is is possible to use the Accererator function with NAS CIFS data.

I know there is usally an agent tracking the changes, but on a NAS there would be no agent.

We don't have to use NDMP we have 10g connections to the filer.

I thought of things like mounting the CIFS shares as NFS mounts on the media server and installing the agent and backing up the mounts.

Trying to get a faster Syntethic/Accelerated backup from or NAS,

Our NAS id Netapp and EMC Celerra.

Thanks

Alan

  • HI

Yes I have read all the info on this, but I don't see anywhere advice on how you would backup

a NAS box from the likes of Netapp or EMC using the Accellerator option.

    Anyone else doing this.

    Thanks

    Alan

  • I have never tried it, but it should be the same as Filesystem backup with Accelerator option selected. Only difference would be the Backup Selection - use UNC path instead of mount point / drive letter. NetBackup Client Service on the media server must be started as domaun user with sufficient access to UNC path.

I take it that you are aware of supported Dedupe destinations for Accelerator?

See 'Accelerator notes and requirements' in NBU Admin Guide I.
