Netbackup Capacity based License in Netbackup 7.6
Hi Team,
We are using capacity based license with current version 7.1.0.2. Currently we have 300 TB base licese and 300 TB of Data Domain deduplication.
Now we are planning to upgrade to Netbackup 7.6 GA. I requested Symantec to generate new license key and they provided two licenses keys, one with 197 TB and 2nd with 103 TB. I am not able to understand the segregation. What new has been changed in Netbackup 7.6 GA licensing.
There is on note in mail
"Netbackup Enterprise Disk Option (EDO) has been replaced by Netbackup Data Protection Optimization Option (DPOO). Additionally, Netbackup Data Protection Optimization Add-on (DPOA) will now be included in Netbackup Platform Base -complete Edition and Netbackup Platform Base - NDMP Edition."
1. Does it means that addtional Deduplication is not required further and included in Base License that's why it is showing segregation of 197+103=300 TB ?
2. Is there any add-on license we require to use Netbackup 7.6 GA or just base license would work?
Yes. Capacity License in NBU 7.6 now includes dedupe (Data Protection Optimization Add-on).
If you previously purchased separate licenses, only the capacity license needs to be renewed.
This should mean a significant cost saving at renewal time.
(Disclaimer - I design solutions and don't do quotations! That is Sales function!)
Would there be any difference of cost ? Have they increased the cost of base license?
We have paid for add-on dedupe license already and now it is included in base license as free. How fair this is ?
I really don't know... You need to have this discussion with your Symantec Sales team....
