Netbackup Catalog Creation

Just taken over an Old 5.1 NB server, and I have a problem with catalogue, everytime i try to use bpsyncinfo -dobackup it downs the drive, i have an engineer going to look at that...

But what I would like to do is write the catalogues to disk, and I am not having much luck with bpsyncinfo... should i be specifing a path as i cant really add a media id..?

Bit Confused...

Thanks

Burty...

  • Here's the UNIX Commands Guide:

VERITAS NetBackup (tm) 5.1 Command Reference for UNIX
     http://symantec.com/docs/TECH32163

    Here's everything else:

Listing of Veritas NetBackup (tm) 5.1 Manuals and links to the respective technotes
     http://symantec.com/docs/TECH50516

    bpsyncinfo isn't documented there, though.

You probably know more about this than me.  :)  The only TechNote I could find was this incredibly old 3.4 (!) one:

How to configure and backup NetBackup catalogs from command line.
     http://symantec.com/docs/TECH15919

Maybe you need an explicit -M <master> command line switch?

With cold catalogs long gone, I don't even have a way to test this command to see if I can help you determine output.  So honestly, I have no idea.

    Good luck!  ;-)

  • You know what I am going to say before offering any advice...

You NEED to upgrade or replace this setup with current, supported backup software (and probably devices as well).
Current NBU version is 7.6.0.3 where cold catalog backups are no longer used.

Do you have access to a Java GUI?

Trying to find command line for such an old version is going to be a major challenge for most of us.

We need to see current config.
Without access to 5.1 Commands manual, my guess is that the command will be something like this:
    bpsyncinfo -L

(Will see if I can find 5.1 manuals...)

  • GUI will be easiest to config.

The NBU 3.4 TN should be valid for 5.1 as well but does not contain enough info, such as how to configure disk backup.

bpsyncinfo -U will help us to see what is wrong with the config (if any).

I remember in the past manually editing the sync file instead of trying bpsyncinfo.
    (/usr/openv/netbackup/db/config/sync)
