Netbackup error status 156

Dear All,

I find the job backup status error code 156 , 8 and 96 job status,

Error code 156:

I check the bpfis and bpkar , to find the job backup error on the Split BCV (snopshot) freeze and failed to backup the flash copy backup policy .

Error code 96

The backup job failed to find the driver for backup but I find the one tape drvie always remain not using anymore, check there is no hardware issue. I am not sure if there is enable setting for Multiple plexing or multi data stream relative issue.

May I know how to further check the log to find the error code 156 and setting for 96 issue?

Thanks,

Alfred

  • It's been 6 days  since my last post - I cannot remember which version of the Snapshot Client manual I copied from.

Please have a look at the 'Handy NBU Links' in my signature.
You will find links to all recent versions of NBU manuals.
Snapshot Client option has not changed in recent years, so, you can download any version of the manual.

What else have you done to troubleshoot in the last 6 days?

Have you tried to check status of  EMC Timefinder?

Have you created and checked bppfi  log?

  • With Snapshot client, NBU simply sends a message to the snapshot provider.

This error was reported to NBU by EMC:
emc_tf_split_prepare: Device /rdsk/..../.... cannot be split at freeze

This means that you need to perform all troubleshooting on EMC Timefinder.

There is another important log that you do not seem to have:
/usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bppfi   (NetBackup client or alternate client)
There might be more info from the snapshot provider in this log.

Be sure that logging level is at 3 or higher.

Please go through the Troubleshooting section of NBU Snapshot Client manual.
    Look for this section:

9 For TimeFinder, ShadowImage, BusinessCopy (Solaris or HP only): Do the following on the client or alternate client, depending on the type of backup:
    ■ To discover and remove any VxVM clones:
See “Removing a VxVM volume clone” on page 260.
    ■ Enter the following to resynchronize the mirror disks:
    For EMC arrays (TimeFinder): ......

Status 96 simply means that there is no media in the robot for the storage unit (media server) that is correct density, in correct pool, or matching retention (for already assigned tapes).

Please see the Status Code manual for more info on status 96.
