Netbackup media transfer

hi all,

i want transfer my media to my other location there is datadomain.

i want export my media image to that datadomain.

can someone please explain how can i do this in netbackup.

  • If you have tape drives in  Mumbai that can read the tapes that were written in banglore, you can import the media on Mumbai master/media server.

Step-by-step procedure on how to import NetBackup backup images via the NetBackup Administration Console GUI.
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH43584

If you upgrade to OST and NBU 7.6 with latest DDOS, you can use AIR to replicate DD images between masters.   http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH154323

(AIR with DD supported as from 7.6.)

If you have tape only in Bangalore and DataDomain only in Mumbai, there is no way to transfer the backup image.
You need tape in both sites or DD in both sites.

  • Where are your backups currently that you wat to 'transfer'?
    Tape?
    Basic disk?
    Advanced disk?
    Some dedupe storage?

    How is datadomain configured?
    CIFS/NFS? (Basic disk in NBU)?
    OST?
    VTL?

How many media servers in your environment?

  • try duplicate images to datadomain... i haven't worked with DD so can't comment more on it.. but its OST for NBU hence you would need license for same on NBU... (not sure if DD can be configured similar to basic disk or similar).

presuming you already have NBU in other place where DD is .. and your catalog is also replicated using AIR (so at target server you wouldn't need to import tape media first for cataloging)

perform duplicate images from tape media to DD and set DD copy as primary if you want to erase images or retire tape media .

Pls share info as stated by marianne which would help us narrow down on recommendation for you.

  • See suppose my Backup Tape i send to Mumbail.where one dedicated  master server working.

but my backuped done on that media in banglore location.

    datadomain share with CIFS.
