Tape Drive cleaning.. Library or Netbackup

Hi folks, I have acquired an HP ESL tape library. Though it has a library enabled feature that could be configured to perform tape drive cleaning... the support is recommending me to use backup s...

    Firstly, ensure that cleaning tapes have unique labels (they normally come with CLN.... labels).

    Put the cleaning tapes in normal tape slots and configure a barcode rule so that inventory will be add them as cleaning cartridges and put them in the None pool.

    Ensure that the density for the cleaning tape matches that of the tape drive. So, if you drive type is hcart, configure the barcode rule as follows for the cleaning tapes:

    Barcode tag: CLN
    Type:     1/2-inch cartridge cleaning tape (HC_CLN)
    Pool:    None
    Maximum mounts (cleanings)  <as per vendor's recommendation>

     

    When the drive needs cleaning, NBU will pick up the drive's TapeAlert flag and mount a cleaning tape just prior to next mount for data cartridge.
