Restore from NTBACKUP

Can we restore a tape backed up with netbackup, through ntbackup?

  • Use WIndows 2000/2003 Server.  Even BackupExec coculd in the older versions.  Download a trial version.  Though I think it'll be easier to just standup a new old OS build.

  • No. Ntbackup cannot read NetBackup format.

    There is documentation out there (probably covered in NBU manuals as well) on how to use 'tar' to read NBU tapes. Not sure if it can be done on Windows.

  • I don't think so.

    The format in which NBU writes data to a tape (tar) , can't be read by ntbackup. (also i believe no other backup software can read).

    So restoration can't be done by ntbackup.
