SAP HANA backup

Hi,

I have the following:

Master Server: Netbackup 7.7.1 installed on windows 2012 R2 standard.

Client : SAP HANA (SUSE Linux)

I want to backup my client.

I am new to SAP HANA backups using Netbackup. I understand that I cannot take backups directly from Netbackup console and would have to use SAP HANA Studio. On my SAP HANA server i have already installed Netbackup client for SUSE Linux. I only have a text console for SAP HANA server as of now.

Can someone who has implemented this before give me a step by step guide on how to go about configuring the backup for SAP HANA?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

After having a read through the doco, yes it is a requirement to have SAP HANA Studio - sorry :(

It looks like you may have other methods for firing off the backups, but restores can only be done via SAP HANA Studio - see this extract from the manual:

"You can run backups using the SQL commands.  You can also use Cron to schedule the backups.  Check the SAP website for the SAP HANA Administration Guide.  Backups for SAP HANA can also be initiated from NetBackup.  However, restores are initiated from the SAP HANA Studio."

Unfortunately SAP is a very different pig to most other types of systems you would integrate with NetBackup.  Hopefully you have a SAP DBA available to help make things a bit easier.

    Good Luck,

    Steve

  • Hi xxyy,

Have you looked at the NetBackup 7.7.1 for SAP Administrator's Guide yet?  This is your best starting point - the link below should get you to it:

  • Thanks Steve.

    I ll read through it.

Is having SAP HANA studio to initiate backups absolutely necessary or there is some other way out like scripts? Currently we have a text console only.No GUI.

    Regards.
