the restore failed to recover the requested files(5)

Hi all,

I have just had a server failure & need to restore data to another Win 2003 Server & I'm receiving the following status with an incomple job:

"the restore failed to recover the requested files(5)"

Below is the contents of the detailed ststus:

22/06/2010 17:19:29 - end reading; read time: 00:00:07
22/06/2010 17:19:30 - restored image alicosan2_1276380434 - (tar did not find all the files to be restored(185)); restore time 00:01:39

the restore failed to recover the requested files(5)

Any ideas?

I have tried restoring direct to the Master server & to another server,

It restores some folders which is odd.

    It transpires that it was an incorrectly set pass phrase set via the BPKEYUTIL when this specific policy was set by someone before my time over 2 years ago.

    Fortuently I managed to tak a wild stab in the dark & set the key on my Master Server & as I type data is being restored.

    Thanks for everyones input & I hope no one else encounters this issue.

    The message "tar did not find all the files to be restored" indicate to me a possible corruption of the backup image. Inspect the bpbkar log or try to restore a new or older backup.

    Do you know this one : HOWTO: Use NetBackup to perform a restore for a total and complete recovery of Windows XP, 2000, 2003, or 2008 client(s) that includes C: (and other system) drive(s), Shadow Copy Component, and/or System_State from a reliable full Windows-NT backup without IDR or BMR in the event of a Disaster (or need to fall back to a known working state).

    Thanks for the replies so far guys.

    1 thing I don't understand is 1 I have never had this problem before & can restore other files from other policies fine & 2 some folder structure is restored.

    I will carry on looking into & will post my findings should I need further advice.

    In the mean time any further advice will be greatly received.

    I forgot to add this part from the Detailed Status:

    This could provide that one bit of information required to resolve the issue.

    You could also ahve a quick look through the following for EC 185 - there's only a few T/N's (9 in total) and Forum threads (6 in total) but they may be relevant?

    This Technote contains a table for NetBackup's Status Codes, with links to potential resolutions for each.

    This is the piece of information I was missing. It's  read error on the image you are restoring from. The files get restored until the read error occur and the restore then fails.

    Try the following:
    Clean drive
    Down tape drive and try restore on remaining available drives.
    Verify the image (hint: Netbackup GUI -> Catalog -> Verify)

    Andy - The server has had a disk failure so it no longer exists or do you mean the log file on the master server?

    on the client to which you are trying to restore. It should expand on any errors you are receiving during the restore process (hopefully!).

    ***EDIT***
    Altho' you did attempt the restore to the master so there may be something there also!

    I can restore from the tape in question as it contains several other cumlatitive backup policies but not the one I need to restore, typical!
