the restore failed to recover the requested files(5)

Hi all,

I have just had a server failure & need to restore data to another Win 2003 Server & I'm receiving the following status with an incomple job:

"the restore failed to recover the requested files(5)"

Below is the contents of the detailed ststus:

22/06/2010 17:19:29 - end reading; read time: 00:00:07
22/06/2010 17:19:30 - restored image alicosan2_1276380434 - (tar did not find all the files to be restored(185)); restore time 00:01:39
22/06/2010 17:19:30 - Warning bprd(pid=6704) Restore must be resumed prior to first image expiration on 12/06/2011 23:07:14
22/06/2010 17:19:30 - end Restore; elapsed time: 00:01:44
the restore failed to recover the requested files(5)

Any ideas?

I have tried restoring direct to the Master server & to another server,

It restores some folders which is odd.

Help me!

Thanks.
  • It transpires that it was an incorrectly set pass phrase set via the BPKEYUTIL when this specific policy was set by someone before my time over 2 years ago.

Fortuently I managed to tak a wild stab in the dark & set the key on my Master Server & as I type data is being restored.

Thanks for everyones input & I hope no one else encounters this issue.

  • If you have a lot of files, extend the timeout - I have had restores miss files because the restore started before it completed determining what to restore....

  • David, If the problem is with encryption then timeouts won't make a difference.

Mark, I actually shouldn't have posted the TN that I found - the only common factor is "Unexpected EOF in tar file" caused by unreadable encrypted data. Doing a verify on the media should confirm this.
Not sure what your options are - I don't have any real life experience with encryption (helped twice to do a config but never involved with a restore).
    Maybe open a support call?

  • Thanks for the feedback Mark. I have marked your post as solution.
