troubleshoot drive down issue

Hello support,

how to troubleshoot the drive down issue in netbackup?

thanks in advance

david

  • Some ideas as starting points

Can OS see the drive correctly

Is the issue only on one media server

Is the issue more than one drive

    When does it go down

    Does it always go down

Can you set it to 'up'

What is in /usr/openv/netbackup/db/media/errors file on the media server(s) that see that drive (or drives if more than one)

Whats in the system message log and the netbackup bptm log

Where in the job does it go down, on tape load, of tape write, on eject etc ...

Does it always go down in the same place in a job

Are using the drive_unload (or drive _eject) script (there is a bug at certain versions that can cause drives to go down, this isn;t widely used though so probably not this)

    Did it every work

Have there been any recent changes (eg visit from Engineer to fix h/ware prolem on robot)

Can you load a tape into a drive usingin robtest from the robot control host

Hope this helps, just a few ideas ...

  • You can refer the technote below

  • Which OS? You have selected 'Not Applicable'. When troubleshooting devices, the OS is very relevant as NBU needs the OS for device access.
