Unable to remove media server

Hi All,
 
Master Server Name : masterserver.bkp.com
NBU Version : 7.5.0.4
Master Server : Windows 2003
 
Media Server Name : mediaserver.bkp.com
NBU Version Media : 6.5.6
MEdia Server : Windows 2003
 
I did a media server decommission. After performing all task for decommission media server.
At the end when I tried to remove the server from emm, I got below error.
 
D:\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>nbemmcmd -deletehost -machinename mediaserver.bkp.com -machinetype media
NBEMMCMD, Version: 7.5.0.4
The function returned the following failure status:
the media is allocated for use (199)
Command did not complete successfully.
 
1) No media/images assign to this host.
 
D:\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>bpmedialist -mlist -h mediaserver.bkp.com -l
 
2) All refference entry of media server removed from master server.
3) Devices attached to media server removed and un-zoned. Storage unit removed.
4) Media server is in Deactivate state
5) Media server entry exist in "nbemmcmd -listhost" command output.
 
Now Media server has been shut down by the OS team.
Need help to remove this media server.
 
Note: There was basic disk storage unit configured for this server to backup its data to disk.

    The bpimagelist output shows that the backup image belongs to the master server:

    Media Type:       Media Manager (2)
 Density:          hcart (6)
 File Num:         38
 ID:               R02210
 Host:             masterserver.bkp.com

     

    So, this shows that you have previously changed ownership for images.

    The problem is with the disk images - although the image ownership was transferred to Master, the Media Descriptor is still recorded as the media server:

    Media Descriptor:        mediaserver.bkp.com

    Have you tried to expire disk images with 'justimage' option?
    This will ensure that NBU will not try to find the actual storage path to delete the images.

    try to run a nbrbutil -dump on the master server and check for allocated media to the media server being decommissioned.

    Alternative stop all activities and run nbrbutil -resetAll

    If nbrbutil -dump doesn't show anything, you will have to raise a call with Symantec.

    No allocation found for media server.
    D:\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>nbrbutil.exe -dump | find /I "mediaserver.bkp.com"
     
    Ran resetall as well, but no luck.
     
    Ran NBCC, it also not showing any storage unit, media, images associated with the media server.

    Do the existing image in Image database for this media server would have become any huddel to get this media server removed.
     
    I can see some of the images do existed for the media server under folder
     
    \veritas\netbackup\db\images\mediaserver.bkp.com 
    \veritas\netbackup\db\images\mediaserver

    Folders under netbackup\db\images\ are Client backup folders. 

    These folders will not prevent removal of media server.

    How exactly did you deal with Basic Storage images?

    Did you duplicate and expire these images before removing the storage unit?

    I have noticed that you said NBCC did not find any images for this media server. 
    This TN seems to be similar to your situation: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH204951
    (bp.conf equivalent on Windows is registry entries...)

    If this fails as well, it seems that you need to log a call as per revaroo's advice...

    Did you duplicate and expire these images before removing the storage unit?
     
    I tried to expire these images, but the server was down and was not able to expire or duplicate these images.
    While tried to expire got error 37, request from invalid server. And in detailed tab, it was showing as server is not available. And the path does not exist. 
     
     
    No entries found under server key string and vm.conf.

    Does this mean you have a list of image id's for this media server?
    If so, try this command:

    bpexpdate -justimage -backupid <image-id> -d 0

    Yes Marianne, they seems to be.

    I have the image id's, I'll try as per your suggestion.

    There are many large number of valid image I can see for this media server. I am not sure, if these images may required in coming future for any sort of restore or not.
     
    So expiration is not the option I can follow.
     
    I have logged a case with Symantec, let see what outcome will be there.

    And a couple of days ago you said that you tried to expire the images......

    Have you tried to change ownership of these images to another media server?

    bpimage -newserver <name> -oldserver <name>

    nbdecommission will also do this for you. this utility does not need the media server to be up and running.

    About the 'basic disk storage unit configured for this server to backup its data to disk'  -
    What happened to this disk? Was it presented to another media server?
