Failed backup with job engine issue

My nightly scheduled backup jobs are failing with the following error message:
Job name : daily
Job type : Backup
Job status : Failed
Job log :
Server name :
Selection list name : daily
Device name :
Target name : SEAGATE 1
Media set name : Media Set 1
Error category : Job Errors
Error : a00081d9 - The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding.
Windows Server 2003 no SP
Veritas Backup Exec for Windows servers ver 9.1
Exchange and remote agents
The following service packs and hotfixes
9.1 4691 Hotfix 54 - Backup Exec for Windows Servers - Remote Agent Authentication Vulnerability *Requires Backup Exec 9.1 4691 Service Pack 3
VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 for Windows Servers revision 4691 - Service Pack 3
An additional symptom is while attempting to edit the current backup job, the software unloads from memory with the following event viewer error message:
event id 1000 category (100)
Faulting application BkupExec.exe, version 9.1.4691.48, faulting module shuie.dll, version 9.1.4691.0, fault address 0x00003a65.
Have tried the following:
Updated sp and hotfixes for VBE
Create new test backup job
Reviewed WEB site for related errors


Anyone have any good ideas?

  • Hello,

    As only the schedule jobs are not running please recreate the jobs and then verify the result.

    Also to isolate the issue please run the jobs on backup to disk folder and then verify the result.
