Inventory Error - Physical Volume Library Drive not found

Using VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows Server version 9.1:

In Devices Tab, Click on Slots.
Run Inventory

The new job will begin, and will successfully inventory the 1st two slots. After that, the job fails, and gives the error "a000810b - Physical Volume Library Drive not found." for every other slot after the first two. It works fine if I run inventory one at a time on each slot individually. I have never had this problem before in over a year. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Greg

  • Hello Greg,

What library are you using, who is the vendor? How many slots does it contain? In case the drive appears in the compatibility list of Backup exec, try installing the latest drivers. You can check the compatibility and install the drivers from the following links:

Title:Backup Exec 9.x for Windows Servers Standalone Drives Hardware Compatibility List
    http://support.veritas.com/docs/271382

Title:VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 - Device Driver Installer (20050115) - Includes Tape Driver Release (20041231) and Robotic Library Release (45) (Intel Only)

Do you regularly clean the drive? If not try cleaning it 2-3 times and then test the inventory.

Hope this helps. Do update in either case at the forum.

  • Library: Qualstar 4420
    22 Slots
    2 Drives: Sony SDX-300C AIT

    Upgraded to Service Pack 2.
    Updated tape device drivers.
    Cleaned each drive twice.

Still failing on inventory. Am I doomed to spend the extra minute setting up individual inventory runs for each slot forever?
  • Hello,

Check in the Widows Event Viewer , System Logs, if you got any errors from the Tape drive or the SCSI Controller(Event ID's 5,7,9,11). This indicates hardware failure.

You may also refer to the technote given below

(title) How to troubleshoot issues with a Robotic Library or Tape Drive in Backup Exec 9.x and 10.0

Also ensure that the firmware used is up-to-date.

Also Ensure that the device is online.
This is a device related issue.

    Thanks
