SBE12 - vmware indipendent disk

Hi,

the backup disk indipendent is not support and are forced to exclude him from the backup.

But which way we can use an alternative?

What would you say to the customer?

  • Hi

Please check the link below which shows as not supported which you know , but the link gives reason why it is not supported ,So as per your Question above you can explain this is to do something with vmware and not backup exec.

The above error is caused because, as per VMWare: "snapshots of raw disks, RDM physical mode disks, and independent disks are not supported". For more information, refer to the vSphere Basic System Administration guide, Section 17.  http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40_u1/vsp_40_u1_admin_guide.pdf

     http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH124365

So only the way for now is to exclude it as per the above technote or you can backup that virtual machine as a Physical machine by installing remote agent & then doing backup of it

    Thanks

  • The virtual machine is a server Linux.

If not wrong, for the agent Linux need buy the license, or for infrastructure virtual  is not necessary ?

    Thanks.

  • Hi If virtual machine is Linux then before purchasing the license for remote agent for linux please check the SCL for 12.0 if it is supported. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH56442 If it is ,then you can install remote agent for linux to backup it up as physical machine. Thanks
