error "Unable to initialize Remote Agent for Windows NT/2000"

Working with two w2k servers...have backup exec 8.60 ver: 3878 loaded on server a and the remote agent for windows nt/2000 loaded and running on server b.

we installed the latest microsoft updates to these boxes this past weekend...and now our backup on server a (backing up data remotely from server b) is taking twice as long to complete. this interferes with our normal business hours. we get the error above..."Unable to initialize Remote Agent for Windows NT/2000" - "Performing standard backup".

How can we verify that server a backup exec can see the remote agent on server b?

Do we have to reinstall the remote agent on server b?

Do we have to reinstall backup exec on server a?

We are not upgrading these machines for a long time...there are no "event items".
