"The backup exec server system service is not responding. the service is either not running or not installed."

I cannot get the system service started on Backup Exec 12.5.  The only thing I can think of, is that I changed my Windows Server 2003 Admin password, and since then, I am prompted to enter a password when Backup exec starts, which I have never done before.  It wouldn't accept anything I tried, so I went into server credentials, and I set the user name and password to the be the same as my Windows Server admin account.  I made sure the server name matches, yet it still won't work, because I get the below error message:

"The backup exec server system service is not responding. the service is either not running or not installed."

I've tried restarting the service multiple times but it never starts up, and always remains in the STOPPED status.  I tried changing my Windows Server password back to the original password, but still no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Go to Start>>Run>> Services.msc

Right click and go to properties of Backup Exec Server service.

Go to Log on and enter the username and password correctly.

Now try to start the service.

If it fails check the error in the Event viewer.

Please let us know the result... if its errors please paste the error here.

    Thanks,
