windows 2008 r2 , TS2900 AND backup exec 2010 r3

I have windows 2008 R2 64, which does not recognize the IBM TS2900 library but if this tape drive in device manager (tape drive -> IBM ULT3580 SEQUENTIAL SCSI DEVICE-HH4).

Now install the driver from the manufacturer IBM, I use backup exec 2010 R3 as backup software. I hope comments.

  • In order for Backup Exec to recognize and be able to use the library, the operating system (windows 2008 R2 64 bit in your case) needs to recognize it first. As long as the library is not detected by the OS, Backup Exec will not be able to see it.

To check if the library is detected correctly in the OS, check for Medium Changer and Tape drive entries in the device manager.

Also check the compatibility guide of Backup Exec to make sure that this Library and configuration its using is supported by Backup Exec. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH137050

  • Hi

Please ensure the following things are setup

1 In device manager please ensure medium changer is installed with unknown for Microsoft

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH33002

2 Tape drivers should be installed with latest symantec drivers if they are using h/w vendor drivers please use below link to install latest tape drivers for symantec

3 Do power cycle end of this with power off library & media server & power on library first wait for it to be intiliazed & then power on media server

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH165716

    Thanks

  • ...just to expand on this a bit:

    1. Your media server isn't a virtualised media server right? If so, there are some explicit conditions to meet, so read below:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH130609&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1291065885300

    2. Also make sure you haven't connected that library to a RAID controller...many vendors don't support that at all. It has to be connected to a SCSI card that is supported by that type of library. If it is an FC-attached library, make sure your server is zoned to see the robotics and the drive.

    3. If the library is a SCSI library, check and make sure the terminator is securely connected, and that the SCSI cable is securely connected and not faulty.

    Thanks!
