We are currently testing our backup strategy with Symantec and so far so good. Since last week I have been trying to do a bare metal restore of an oracle server. this is what I did so far: Convert original machine to Virtual machine Point in Time. Rename server + assign new IP + new SID remove oracle broken database instance (oradim -delete) Create new instance with same SID (oradim -new) generate new password file (orapwd file=path\pwdsid.ora password=<password>) change DBID to the original (rman: SETDBID<dbid ID>) Reconfigure backup exec agent utility, restore trust, reconfigure oracle instance and database access. Add 'new' virtual server to backup exec interface and configure password create restore job in old 'broken' server that uses last available control file. restore to a different Oracle server, with the server name, correct log on account and database log on account. when I execute this job i get the RMAN error: RMAN-00571: =========================================================== RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS =============== RMAN-00571: =========================================================== RMAN-03002: failure of restore command at 11/18/2013 14:47:45 ORA-27191: sbtinfo2 returned an error when I enable server side debugging this is the last entry i see in my log: BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.725 [engapi] - Record - 7 BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.725 [engapi] - resource - Oracle-Win::\\mlinetstsvr02-vm.itnet.hosp\mlineTEST BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - account name - BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - account ID - 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - resource ID - 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - resource Container ID - 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - server - mlinetstsvr02-vm.itnet.hosp BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - server ID - 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - resource OS ID - 39 BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - resource OS Ver - 0 BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - resource Type - 14 BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - resource Sub Type - 2 BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - flags - 0x5 BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - update date time - 11/18/2013 1:47:07 PM BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - No password Found BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [engapi] - ***************************************************************** BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [server] - Removing 'MLINETSTSVR02.itnet.hosp Restore 00060' from status update list BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.726 [server] - Updating status for: 'MLINETSTSVR02.itnet.hosp Restore 00060' (0x18 0x0) BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.727 [server] - Status for: 'MLINETSTSVR02.itnet.hosp Restore 00060' updated BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.730 [server] - Merging of BE / VSR Job Logs not necessary for this Type of Job BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.730 [server] - EndJob() criticalVolumeError - 0x0 BENGINE: [11/18/13 14:47:55] [9512] 2013-11-18T14:47:54.730 [server] - Ending job 'MLINETSTSVR02.itnet.hosp Restore 00060' with error status (-536870080) to clarify, mlinetstsvr02 is the original server that is broken. mlinetstsvr02-vm is the new machine. helo, I would like to get ideas regarding how to backup an oracle database, I am new to backup exec. Here is my structure. I have a windows server 2008 which runs backup exec 2010 (The oracle database will be backup to a folder in this server). I have another server which is rhel 5 (with an oracle 11g databse which i want to backup) with oracle backup agent installed. When i run symantec backup exec and try to browse through oracle databse i get the message "before you can select this resource for backup configure it using the remote agent utility also called vxmon.exe" as can be seen in the attachment. is it talking about the remote agent utility in linux or windows server? can anyone tell me the procedure that need to be in place to backup the oracle database. after searching i found an article about configuring "Configuring the Oracle Agent on Linux computers". but i am not sure exactly what procedures i should follow and what is the minimum configurations to do oracle backup. furthermore i have a concern. if i create an instance as described in the article will it have any effect on the databse as it is used by an application which is custom made or the instance is for the purposed of remote agent utility. attached find the screeshots of my windows and linux servers Thanks1.3KViews2likes6CommentsRMAN-06403 ORA-01034

hi, all We are using BackupExec 2012 and been using it for our Oracle backup for months, few days ago, the backup job suddenly fail with error "BEError(0xe0001402) This server name is not in Backup Exec server's authentication list. Enter the server's fully qualified domain name and logon account into the Backup Exec server's authentication list. Server names in the authentication list are case-sensitive." Our Oracle server with fully qualified domain name is still inthe Backup Exec server's authentication list. Nothing had been changed. I monitored the backup job and found that the job went smoothly in backuping and verifying...and in the last step, the error prompt. I done the catalog database consistency check and found no error at all. The error occured only when we backup the Oracle instance but it's run ok if we backup normal file in the server. Is there anyone out there know why? Thanks VincentSolved3.3KViews1like4CommentsHave license for 16 application/database agents, only 3 used
We have Symantec 2012 which has licenses for 16 application and database agents (according to the assessment tool). When I ran the assessment tool it shows 16 licenses with 3 used. The 3 are used on our two Symantec servers and one WSUS server due to SQL being installed on those. We have two domain controllers and 7 oracle servers all of which we'd like to have the application and database agent running on. Is there any way we can fix this so that the AD servers and Oracle servers are using the application and database agent?1.1KViews1like6Commentsbackup exec 2012 - oracle linux RAC - add channels
