Symantec Backup Exec Service Account Login Failure Error on SQL Server Clustered
Hi, We are trying to troubleshoot a multiple login attempt when our backup exec run to backup our database backup files (.bak, .trn extension). We only try to backup the backup drive not the entire drive where the mdf and ldf resides. We are puzzled why the backup exec need to connect to SQL Server (we are not backing up the physical file of the database)? The backup service account is not create on SQL and we believe we shouldn't add it because we really dont need to as we dont backup the database only the .bak files. How can we solve this login attempt issue? On our SQL Server we are getting this error every time backup exec runs: Login failed for user 'symantec/ourbackupserviceaccount'. Reason: Could not find a login matching the name provided. Dearest Veritas Community, I feel really sorry to bother you at Easter. When I tried to catalog an imported BE2012 backup on a new server, a message "Encryption key (code) cannot be retrieved". Checked passphrase and created new key (same passphrase, 256, Fips 140-2 not activated, common access). Also tried on different OS Windows 2008R2, Windows 2019 with combinations of Backup Exec: BE 2012, BE15 FP5, BE21. Same (old) Domainname. Same error. Workaround according https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100017836 failed. Your help will be very appreciated. So per CR, I ran LiveUpdate on our Symantec Backup Exec 15 (version 14.2) server. The LiveUpdate process ran and errored out saying that the updates were downloaded, but failed to install. So I thought that since they didn't install, nothing would be updated, right? I attempted to start the Backup Exec services and found they wouldn't stay running. They would start successfully, and then stop automatically shortly thereafter. So I proceeded to reboot the server. After the server was online, I opened Backup Exec and was presented with a pop-up outlining the updates that were installed to the software which was curious since LiveUpdate told me the files were decompressed, but not installed. After closing the pop-up, I panicked a bit noticing that all of the backup jobs were gone. The history was still there, but no jobs. Therefore, I ran the beutility to see if I could fix what looked to be a database issue. The beutility process for "Recover Database" completed successfully. However, the jobs didn't re-appear. From there, I found that a backup of the database was taken at 4:03 AM, and proceeded to run beutility again, but this time dropping the database, and restoring it from the 4:03 AM one. The process completed successfully, but no jobs re-appeared. From there, I knew what jobs should be there, so proceeded to re-create them from history. After setting up the job, I clicked OK to complete the job setup, and was given the attached screenshot (bue_error.png). In checking Google, I didn't see any information to this error. I'm assuming the jobs are still around somewhere, but not showing due to this error. I'm working on getting support involved, but thought posting something here may help as well. Any assistance on this issue is greatly appreciated. Thank you. EDIT: So the good news is that the jobs are still there. I had a job kick off for our domain controller and it completed successfully twice. So I know the jobs are there and working, but I just can't see them. The Jobs pane currently shows 0 items and the message "No jobs exist" is there.Solved1.6KViews0likes4CommentsBackup Exec 15 Restore from Disk performance issues
Hi, We are having problems with performance when restoring from disk on backup exec 15. We're running an ESXI 5.1 cluster and several servers got hit with ransomeware. We are restoring our fileserver first from a datadomain (Current software 6.0.0.9-544198) target for backup to disk and when restoring it starts at 1468 MB/Minute restore and then drops down to somwehre between 40 and 68 MB per minute. We have over a terabyte to restore in all and cannot afford the extended time to restore. We ensured that the network for restore and connection is set to 9000 MTU and rebooted but still unable to get better speed. Most searches either returns information for restores from tape or backup performance tuning. Until the ransomware, backups were working just fine with no known performance issues.705Views0likes1CommentLicense and migration of Backup Exec 15
I'm using Backup Exec 15 revision 1180 Feature Pack 4 on Windows Server 2k8 R2 Std x64. 1. I use Backup Exec 15 to backup\restore data from\to Windows File server with IBM Backup Tape TS2900, LTO4. Now I'm planning to install new Win Server 2k12, then install Backup Exec (copy folder "Program Data\Symantec" from old server 2k8), then restore data from a Full Backup Tape. (total data is about 700GB, enough to backup in 01 Backup Tape 800GB). Do you know the best practice document for this migration? 2. With the unlimited license of Backup Exec 15, which is the newest version of Backup Exec I can use? Thank you,1.6KViews0likes3CommentsCan you backup the Settings within BE15
I am currently running BE15 on MS server 2012 R2 and with little experience would like to ask is there a way to backup all of the settings and jobs within the Job Monitor, just in case I loose BE15 due to a crash/hard drive failure. Thanks in advance for your time.836Views0likes2CommentsVeritas16 /Backup Exec 15
Here is the Issue: I am using Backup exec 15 (14.2) V-Ray edition and using agentless methodology to take backup of my virtual infrastructure on Hyper-V platform. I am taking backup of virtual machines (11) splitting them in different in jobs with GRT enabled and agent installed on windows machine. I amusing Full backup and Increment strategy to keep 1-3 month data having full every month or every 3 months. I have SQL, SharePoint, Terminal and File Server in my environment. Issue s incremental backup I am receiving for these virtual machines are very high like for SQL 120-150 GB every incremental (Tried disabling and enabling SQL GRT no difference but if I disable file folder GT backup size reduces significantly but restore time increase due to compression but I need file folder GRT for my servers). I tried agent base backup for SQL and result was same despite checking taking SQL backup log after backup job feature enabled or not. For share point VM size is 80 GB and actual data is 40 GB but incremental is 20-30 GB (only file folder GRT enabled) and same applies to terminal servers like 10 GB incremental and File Server which is also AD is creating 40-50GB incremental. I thought may be there is some issue with tool and I upgraded it from BE 15 (14.2) to veritas 16 Trial and issue remain same. I hold backups by veritas and used another tool agent base backup and I was wondering hat backup size for full and incremental was very small like for SQL full only 70GB as compare to BE 15/Veritas 400 GB and Incremental 10GB as compare to 150 GB same applies to other servers. I am wondering should I go for upgrade or simply move away from BE/Veritas as other product is working very fine. Note: I have virtual infrastructure so I prefer to have VM base backups as it’s easy to manage and recover incase of any issue.2.1KViews0likes6CommentsBUExec15 withj HyperV - Migrated VMs, How to reflect in BUExec
I'm running Backup Exec 15 on Windows Server2012 R2, which was once a Hyper-V host, but is now only the Backup Exec 15 Host. I have two Hyper-V hosts (also Server 2012R2) that are not clustered but I have done a few live migrations and offline migrations between the two. Lets call them the following: BUE1, HVH1, HVH2 I'm still seeing the migrated VMs in their old locations. BUE1 shows 12 guests (it still has the Hyper-V components, but none of the guests), some with failures and many with successful backups from the last scheduled backup. Many of the same VMs show on HVH1, and a few on HVH2 HVH2 was added last, so nothing has been migrated from it, only to it. for instance, the VM DC1 shows thus: BUE1 = Success (2/9/2018) HVH1 = Fail (2/9/2018) HVH2 = Success (2/9/2018) - this is its actual home after being migrated from BUE1 to HVH1 then to HVH2 How do I get Backup Exec 15 to know what host a VM actually lives on now and stop indicating failed backups because guests no longer reside on that server?Solved1.7KViews0likes4CommentsBE15 backup DFSR performance very low
Dear, we are in China, we are using BE 15 running on windows 2012R2 physics server, flash installed, we have a server on VM platform 5.1, this server have a drive attached from a NAS volume, this drive set the DFS replication with another server in Europe, backup the data on this drive directly the performance is OK, but backup the DFSR is very slow, sometimes 100MB, sometimes 50,20, ever 2MB, i guess the problem maybe is the DFSR setting, have any way to speed up? thanks1.2KViews0likes1CommentTransfer Rate issue
Hey everyone, Quick question - possibly a simple fix. I run a staged backup that does a differential M-TH and a full on Friday each with their own drive. The transfer rates for most of these jobs fall between 1800mb/min to 3000mb/min except for my Thursday differential that instead runs at only 850mb/min on average. I am not sure why there is such a discrepency here considering the drives are the same, and the backup's are set up the same. I understand that the thursday differential will be the largest of them and there is additional time that must be allotted to it for that reason but the transfer rate shouldn't be effected. Could it be as simple as needing to format the drive? Are there some other options I can look into? Thanks.1.7KViews0likes5Comments
