Hi.....the moment of truth has arrived. My desktop System has just crashed. I ordered a new computer. It is custom built. It won't be here for a week or two, in which time certain files will have changed. My mission critical stuff tends to be backed up to the cloud as well as SSR. So, I downloaded them to my laptop and I am working on them with my laptop.. When saved, they go back them up to the cloud. It lets me keep on working despite the loss of the desktop. What I want to do is develop the safest strategy for restoring my files when the new computer arrives. The real issue is ....do I install the cloud programs and restore from there first or do I do a SSR restore first? The SSR restore will cover 97% of my docs, but the cloud will have that last 3% duplicated. Plus, it will now include some documents that are more recent and have been changed since my last SSR backup. Obviously, I don't want to overwrite those new files with the older SSR ones. My thought at the moment is that I should download all files from the cloud first. They will be the most recent versions. Then and only then use SSR to restore documents, and hopefully there is a command in SSR that says "don't overwrite,." leaving, I hope, the cloud version where conflicts exist. If I restore with SSR first, some of the cloud programs may get confused and create dupe files. That may be safest, but it may also be some work to clean up. So, I think I have some reasonable thoughts on this. But I'd be happy to hear any advice on my restore strategy.Solved788Views0likes5CommentsSymantec System recovery 2013

A few days ago I had an issue with doing a system restore using Ghost 15. I went to that forum for help and learned that Symantec was going to discontinue Ghost and recommended users "check out" SSR 2013 with its free trial. I downloaded the free trial and eventually learned it would not install unless I first remove Ghost. That wasn't from anything that I saw when the SSR installation failed; that happened without any additional information. However, I did eventually find my way to this forum and a helpful Guru pointed out the issue and also that I could always re-install Ghost if I wasn't happy with SSR. I uninstalled Ghost, installed SSR, and started backing stuff up. Now, if one of the things you want to do is a full system restore (my primary interest)then you need a recovery disk. SSR will make a recovery disk for you and all you need to do is provide an activation key which you don't get with the trial version. No problem, as all I need to do is install Ghost. But I can't install Ghost until I uninstall SSR. And SSR WILL NOT UNINSTALL. Whenever I try to uninstall it there's an Error 2738 and something about a VBasic error. So now I have a trial verision of a program that I can't use and a paid for program I can no longer load. I guess it can all be fixed if I pay Symantec for an activation key for a program that I'm not sure I want in the hopes it will maybe allow me to upgrade to a latter version that can uninstall so I can install the program I uninstalled so I could evaluate the Free Trial. To put it another way, I may have to pay Symantec to I can remove their free software and load back the software I paid them for as well. And, even it it turns out there's a simple, and hopefully less expensive, way out of this I've still wasted a lot of time on what should be a free trial of a comercial product which appears to be more of an alpha test. (If I sound upset, it's because I really am)2.4KViews3likes12CommentsRegarding License information for Symantec System Recovery 2011

Dear all, I am still testing Symantecs Backup Exec System Recovery 2010, if this product fits our needs (simple to use, reliable). I installed it without any problems on my win 7 professional computer (32 bit, 2x 3 GHz CPU and 3 GB of RAM). To establish a new backup, I run the wizard. Source: My documents. Target: Microsoft Sky Drive, which is already mappd via Gladinet. (on both accounts, user and admin, successfully) After finishing 5%. I get an Error: "Cannot establsih network connection." Ok, Maybe Microsoft servers might be overloaded or slow or whatever. I tried it again 4 or 5 times. Same problem. OK, maybe, Symatec does not like / ork with skydrive or misconfigured or what ever. But same problems with t-online and 1&1 cloud. I was confused because my username for skdrive is an emailadress. Symtaec chaned it from "name@domain.de" to "domain/myname" http://screencast.com/t/6G0Qgqng Ok, last try, maybe there are still bugs in it regarding the cloud. I gave another computer in the 1 GBIT LAN as a target (win xp sp3). After ~ 40% error. 2nd try. Same procedure. Error exist... What can I do ?
