As of 1/14/2010, BE(vers. 11d) takes forever to do anything, then eventually (most of the time) returns with various errors. The most common error is "Communication Stalled". Sometimes it gets stuck for so long Ihave to reset the PC. We've been using this system for some time, and the only difference is Windows patches that were installed on 1/13/2010. I found some help guides on your site that suggest pausing the media server and restarting the BE services. This helped some, and Iwas able to inventory the drive, as well as do a quick erase provided that I pause/restart EVERY time I do something. It however has not helped with a backup. Misc. Info... Drive is Sony AIT 150 GB SATA using Symantec Driver (dated 3/23/2007, driver version 5.1) Thanks in advance!1.5KViews2likes10CommentsProblem in writing data into new LTO-3 tape - Final error: 0xe0008115 - Physical Volume Library Drive or Robot paused, offline, or disabled.

Hello, I've a strange problem with my installation of backup exec. I have a new IBMTS3100 (LTO4)libraryconnected (via SAS) with an IBMx3400 (using a dedicated HBASAS - 25R8060). On the x3400 I have a fresh W2k3 64bit installation with Symantec Backup Exec 12.5. Both O.S. and Backup Exec are upgraded to the last version, service pack and patch. I have also installed the symantec driver for the tape and upgrade the firmware of library, tape and HBA to the last release. Everything work correctly, but about once a day the library mark a tape as bad and the Backup Exec stop to write on the tape. If I remove the bad LTO Backup Exec it works again. Today I have removed the fifth "bad" LTO. It seems strange to me that in 10 LTO cartridges (all IBM original) purchased there are already 5 defective. Thinking on an hardware problem I've open a ticket to IBM support. They've analyzed my log andtold me that writing is blocked but can't understand if it's a physical problem on the tape or whether a software issue (BackupExec detects any error in writing and mark cartridges as bad). IBMsend me a tool(ITDT) that write directly on the tape. With this software there isn't any problem.I've tried to write for about 20 hours without any block. Moreover if I try to write on an LTOthatBackupExec has marked as bad ITDT can write on them and after the write process the cartdrige "rises" and work again. Everything makes me think of a question of dialogue between BackupExec and my library. Any idea about? Hey. I have just re-built a Dell PowerEdge 1800 Serverwith Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard (SP1). Attached to it I have 3 tape drives (via SCSI) : Quantum Super loader 3 Seagate Viper 2000 HP DAT160 Previously the server was running Server 2003, the Hardware has not changed. I have installed Backup Exec 2012 + all the updates (using live updates). I have also updated the server with all the latest Microsoft patches. Initially I had a problem with the quantum and the viper with VERY slow job rate's (5.00 MB/Min). From past experience I knew the "medium changer devices" drivers would be the cause. I have changed (well removed) the quantum driver so now it says "Unknown Medium Changer" in device manager and the backup job rate speed is as it should be and all is fine with that loader. But I still have the problem with the Seagate viper 2000. Does anyone know what driver I should be using for the Seagate Viper 2000? And where I could get it from? Both the “medium changer” driver and “Tape drive” driver? I have attached an image of the current driver and version for what is installed under “medium changer” in device manager as this is the one I believe is causing the problem! Any help much appreciated!Solved976Views1like4CommentsLTO 6 Tape Drive Compatibility
Hi, My company will shortly be purchasing an LTO 6 Tape drive (manufacturer and model yet to be confirmed). We are running Backup Exec 2010 R3 and I need confirmation that the Symantec Tape Drivers will be compatible with LTO 6 Tape Drives. ThankyouSolved2.3KViews1like5CommentsBackup Exec 2010
Hi All, I'm constantly getting the error of "a tape read/write error has occured" (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH148527&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1336401552565) Here are the specifics: - Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2 - Symantec Backup Exec 2010, Media Server Version 13.0 Rev. 2896 (64-bit) - Old tapes used for differential always work fine, no errors - Slightly used tapes (used for full/differential backups once or twice) receive the above error - Brand new tapes receive the above error - Tried using two different brands of tapes - Used a tape cleaning cartridge to clean the tape drive I've read up about this error and it said if it's not the tape drive that's dirty, it may be because of the hardware, cables, etc.-- however, the backups work fine when using the older tapes, so it wouldn't have anything to do with the hardware. We have old (1-2 yrs) tapes from full backups, and I've tried using those tapes as well, but I receive the same error. I tried a newer driver for the tape drive, but the same error comes up for the new/slight used tapes. It's hard to believe it's something to do with the tape drive hardware, cables, internal, or software since I'm not getting this error for all of the tapes I use. Hi Everyone, I've recently been handed the task of looking after a v.small company's two Dell servers. The main one has runs Windows SBS 2003 SP2 with BackupExec 9.1 and they've recently aquired a 2nd hand HP DAT 72x6 Autoloader. Now, I've been through all the threads on here I could find relating to this and think I've covered most of the bits needed to get BackupExec to recognise this bit of kit. However, they all make mention of : "Device Driver Installer (20050115) Includes Tape Driver Release (20041231) and Robotic Library Release (45)" Unfortunately, every link I've found to this appears to result in a dead end (probably meaning that, being such an old product it has been "archived"). I don't suppose anyone could help out by letting me know where I can obtain this download from. This is a very small company so I don't think upgrading is going to be much of an option for them - particularly in these financial times..... Much appreciated GeorgeSolved1.6KViews1like10Comments
