NB Master Server migration to the new HW
Hello, I would like to migrate my current NB Master Server 10.1.1 running on Windows 2012 R2 (VMware) to the brand new server running on Windows 2022 (VMware), whole env. includes over 20 Dell DataDomains as target storages and over 20 Media Servers. Are there any general recommendations? Do you have any experience with similar migration? I found following migration toolhttps://www.veritas.com/content/support/en_US/downloads/update.UPD162444but I could not find any real cases how it works and so on. Other way how to do it would be catalog recovery but that would take too much time which I cannot afford at the moment. Or does it make a sense to build a new NB Master Server, do the re-configuration there of the storages, Media servers, policies etc. and leaving the old NB Master Server running behind till the backed-up data reach expiration point? Or is there any way how to export the configurations? How does it work with the certificates? Is it possible to have same token on both old and new NB Master Servers? Thank you. Good afternoon. Yesterday I carried out an agentless VMware recovery. The recovery was only partially completed, of the 342,000 files 76 were not restored. Is there a log that will give me a list of the 76 files that were not restored? I have been looking in/usr/openv/netbackup/logs/tar/agentless/ but cannot find a definitive list of the failed files. Thank you.617Views0likes1CommentHow to recover data from Amazon S3 with a different server?
Hey We are in a bit of a situation here at my company. Long story short our data center infrastructure failed. Our Backup exec server (Version 20.1) was backing up our data to the AWS S3 cloud with encryption. Unfortunately our Backup exec server was effected as well. So I had to set up a new backup exec server. Now I have backup exec installed and I have added the database encryption key from our previous backup exec server to the data directory folder. I also have added the credentials to our AWS cloud account. The problem is I don't see a way for me to retrieve the data that I have in the cloud. The restore button is grayed out and when I click on the Amazon account bucket I only see details and no information or process to restore about the data that's already there. Would anybody please be able to guide me or inform me if i'm missing a step of if this is even possible?942Views0likes1CommentRecovery Without import (very awkward situation)
Hello, I have run into very awkward sitaution here, our client is running Netbackup 6.0 (i know its EOL) on solaris and they recently purchased Netbackup 8.1.2. So they want to import all the Backup info(all client and their backups) from old server into this new server so that if any request of old restore comes, it will be served from this new server. Is it even possible to achieve this!!!? I have been reading about the "Recovery without import" white paper and it says somthing about cat_export and cat_import step. but the problem is there is no Cat_export command on source (NB 6.0) server. I have done the step where it sas to copy the contents of /usr/openv/netbackup/db/images to the destination server. I cant brows the backup of any client of old server as there isn't any info about them in NBU GUI (BAR window). i do have the backup tape of catalog of old server. Waiting for your kind response.Solved1.5KViews0likes5CommentsHDD Failure Windows Server 2008 - Now what?
Hi, We've had a HDD failure (I think) our server will no longer boot. There is no Raid error being displayed, I assume that whatever has happened has damaged both drives at this stage. (there are 3 drives in total) We had Backup Exec 2010 installed - It's been useful a few times recovering damaged or infected files from the Dell cartridges we swap out each night. I'm confident we have a working backup of the entire system on these cartridges. I assume the correct way forward would be to obtain 3 brand new replacement drives, then reinstall the Server OS to it's minimum form, download and install Backup exec 2010 and then do a recovery which should put the snapshot back in place? My problem is two-fold Apparantley we have no recovery media for Windows Server 2008 - The server was supplied by a local council I.T department a few years ago, they are saying media has been supplied, however it doesn't exist - Also I would expect a License sticker/key on the chassis of the server, this doesn't apear to be there either. Assuming I manage to get hold of three replacement drives, and a copy of the media/license - I'm in the same situation for Backup Exec 2010 - Nobody seems to know any information on the license for the software, it is not on the original invoice for the server, the local council are being less than helpful and suggest that we are on our own. I'm not really sure where to go from here - I can't install the OS, or the software - I might be missing something with the recovery procedure and I'm kind of hoping that there is a plan B to get me around this situation - Obviously if the recovery happens I will be able to provide license info for Backup Exec - Maybe I can get the software in Trial mode or something? Suggestions more than welcome Thank you!1.4KViews0likes3CommentsNetBackup version upgrade involving DD and NBU Appliances
Hello Folks, Greetings for the day. We have many small/large NetBackup environments that we would like to start NetBackup version upgrade on. The NetBackup Master Server is a physical server with either Windows or Linux OS on it. We have environments where we have been using Data Domain for short-term backup and then vault them off to tapes for longer retention. In some of our environments, we also have NBU appliances being used as media servers. Many environments have all devices viz. NBU Master Server (Physical Server), NBU Media Server(Physical Server), Data Domain(Appliance), NBU Appliances, Ops-Center(Virtual Machine) in there together. Could you please guide us the correct sequence which should be followed for Upgrading NBU environment to NBU 7.7.3 ? We know the basic sequence of proceeding with Ops-center first, then NBU Master Servers, then NBU media servers, then clients, but the involvement of appliances has been adding complexities to the whole upgradation process, especially when it requires upgrading 3rd party appliancs like Data Domain. I will be furnishing more details about individual's version but at some point, we have found ourseleves stuck up on whether to upgrade DD first or NBU Master Server first. In our environment, we need to upgrade both, the DDOS and DDboost plungin. EMC has suggested to upgrade DDOS to Version on 5.5.4.10 and ddboost plugin to 3.1.x. The upgrade path is 5.0/5.1 to 5.2 to 5.5.4.10. So we are pretty confused as to go with DD OS / DDBoost plugin upgrade first and then NetBackup upgrade on some other day or all to be performed on the same day? Also, can we ourseleves upgrade the DD OS/DD Boost or EMC TSE needs to perform the same ? The NetBackup Master Server version is little different in all of the environments w.r.t patches installed over and above 7.5 version. Ops-center is Ops-Center Analytics ver 7.6.0.1 on VMware virtual machine running Windows 2012 OSmanaging all of the different Master Backup servers. ======================================================= There are many but to start off with, two of our NBU environments have below configuration:-> NBU Environment 1 Data Domain Model number: DD610 Data Domain OS 5.0.1.0-240411 Master Server NBU version installed: 7.5.0.5 Master Server OS : windows 2008 R2 Current plugin installed:- 2.3.1.0-223945 Media Servers: N/A Tape Library/Robot: N/A Data Domain: Configured as single Disk Pool NBU Environment 2 Model number: DD620 Data Domain OS 5.1.1.0-291218 Master Server NBU version installed: 7.5.0.4 Master Server OS : windows 2008 R2 Current plugin Version: 2.4.1.0-289644 Media Servers: N/A Tape Library/Robot: N/A Data Domain: Configured as single Disk Pool ================================================================== Please let me know if you need any more info from our side.4.1KViews0likes7Comments
