VMWare Backups with File Level Restore on 7.5.0.1
Having found out that we cannot exclude the data disks whilst using dynamic disks (see my previous post on the subject) I thought that I would backup the whole server and look at the file level restore for this particular server; however, I have stumbled across another issue............. The server has two disks, C drive is 60Gb and D drive is 100Gb both are set as dynamic disks, on top of this we are using the built in windows disk management system to mirror the D drive, the backup is set as a VMWare backup in the policy and all the default options are set in the advanced section so all disks are covered, the backup completes and I can restore 3 vmdk files but cannot do any individual file restores, we have tried breaking the mirror and re-running the backup but we get the same results. Having read the VMWare Admin Guide this does mention that using raid software on Linux will result in not being able to restore individual files, is this the same for Windows??? Have Symantec got any plans to change the VM backups to do what Veeam can do as at the moment it looks like our plan to remove Veeam from the estate will have to be put on hold until Netbackup can do the same as Veeam in relation to backup/restore. Netbackup Enterprise 7.1.0.3 running on Solaris 10 If I want to restore some files but I only have one of a lot of tapes in the Library, the rest is Vaulted to offsite storage. Now I would like to restore the files only from the tape that is in the library, sort of for the time being. In restore I see all of the files, I could sort of narrow it down using dates, but I would like to click on a directory and say that I would like to restore all files in this directory that you find on Tape X. I don't care about the files on other tapes becuase that involves getting tapes from offline storage. Is this possible?Solved1.7KViews8likes3CommentsWindows thick console 7.5 - no way to backup/restore servers?? Also issue with Russian characters in file names
We have come across an issue using the JAVA console (either on UNIX or Windows) where files with Russian characters in the file name are not being correctly named in NetBackup. The file names are being created similar to H2TV30~1. This make trying to restore a file an Indiana Jones type of adventure. 3 days of Googling, and all I can find is one post where someone said Symantec told them to use the Windows thick console and it should display file names with Russian characters fine. OK, so I finally got the Windows thick console up and running (BTW - the console and the client share registry settings. We were backing up the server that I installed the console on via the public NIC, but our master server only listens on the private NIC - in order to get both working, had to set the client to back up through the private NIC!). So I get it installed, fire it up, and it looks almost identical to the JAVA client - ALMOST! There is no Backup, Archive, and Restore function right above the Activity Monitor! Only thing I can find is the button on the toolbar, and that ONLY brings up the client to backup/restore the client the console is installed on! Is there no way to backup and restore all of your servers through the Windows thick console like you do through the JAVA console? We are running the master and media server on UNIX. And also, anyone have any inputs on the Russian character thing?Solved1.4KViews7likes9CommentsRestore db2 archive logs

Hi, We are required to run a very large restore (~12TB) of a SAP database. The backup image is stored on a Data Doamin storage server. We would like to force the restore to use a specific media server that is not the server used for the oirignal backup. The storage server has 6 DD Boost enabled media servers accessing it for both backups and duplications between data centers. Each time we initiate the restore a different media server is used. We have used the "media host override" settings but these do not seem to be honored for OST storgae servers according to this artilce - http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/how-use-media-host-override Has anyone else experinced this problem?2.1KViews6likes10CommentsVerify KMS Encryption NetBackup 7.5
