Hi Guys, I'm having problem to make my SLP to run via SAN and hope you guys can help me or give me some ideas on this. Here's my environment details. All Netbackup running on version 7.7.2 1 master server - Linux Redhat 41 clients - Linux Redhat There is no dedicated media server On Master Server: We have 2 HBAs. One is 16GB (Qlogic QLE2660), which is not supported by Veritas (yet) based on hardware compatibility matrix. So we added a temporary HBA (Qlogic QLE2460) with 4GB speed. Driver successfully installed on QLE2460. We successfully configured FT backup for SAN clients based on below zoning setup. SAN Client Zone Member Client -initiator Master Server - target (4GB HBA) SAN storage - initiator/target The backup setup for all SAN client is to back them up to disk (which is on master server). And then it will be duplicated to tape via SLP. The issue is currently all the SLP is running via LAN and not FT. I wonder why since both the disk and tapelibrary are connected to master server. And to think that tape drive is on FC but data transfer to LAN is just doesn't make sense to me. So wezone the 16GB HBA (initiator) together with the 4GB HBA (target), setting the master server to be a SAN client as well (bpclntcmd -sanclient 1),thinking that perhaps we can make the data transfer from the 16GB card to 4GB card. The transport type when we backing up master server by itself now changed to FT. But it failed withFT Pipe could not be opened (83). Can we do a zoning for master server as below? Master Server Zone Member Master Server - initiator (16GB HBA) Master Server - target (4GB HBA) Tape library - target Basically we have 2 problems now. Based on what I explained above. Is it possible SLP to run on FT? Or do we need to have dedicated FT media server? Error 83 - Is it because both HBA belongs to the master server? Please help!~ Regards, Jason AnthoniusSolved2.1KViews0likes6CommentsShould I use the same storage for OS part and Backup DB part?
We are trying to set up Linux server for the backup server, and are using NetApp storage for the both OS part and Backup data part. We have two different type of stroage both from NetApp. One is FAS which has a lot of storage based functions, and support NFS, SnopShots, DR replications. The other one is E-serieshas less functions and primarily for the backup data images. Should I seperate OS and Data part , one on FAS, and the other on E, or does that matter. Thanks!Solved1.9KViews0likes12CommentsLibrary not enabled - Drive Control is AVR
We have just addedto our environment, anew NBU 7.6.0.2 Linux media server that sits behind a firewall. The new media server is configured for SSO and has access to all SAN attached drives in-scope, emm server shows correctly, all drives showUPandrobotic definition looks normal. The NetBackup console shows the library connection for the new media server as NOT enabled and all associated tape drives arein AVR control. We have popped some holes through the FW for port 1556 but I'm wondering if there are other ports required? Port 1556 is opened between the new media server, master server and the library control host which is also configured seperately. The library is completely functional for everything except the new media server. Any ideas what direction I should be looking in? Hi Experts, Environment: Master and Media servers running on Linux, NBU version 7.6.0.2. Tape Libraries: StorageTek SL3000, Firmware 3.61 We recently replaced LTO4 Tape Drives with LTO6 Tape Drives on our 2 STK SL3000 Tape libraries. The upgrade of Drives was done 1 week apart for each library. First upgrade went ahead without any issues but after the upgrade of 2nd library we were not able to scan tape drives and Robots. We Engaged Symantec Support and they did some changes in the Device Mappings files. After the change in the device mappings file, cople of tries failed but then in the 3rd try Robots, Drives and Storage units were configured. We performed the inventory and every thing looked fine. Couple days later we had to run an inventory and when we clicked Robot > Inventory Robot from Java Console, the window appeared only with the master server name in it and without any robots showing in the window. We tried Netbackup Administration Console and tried the inventory, it did show both the robots and was able to run the inventory. During the troubleshooting we have updated the Device Mapping file to latest version 1.23. Checked all media servers for consistency. This issue has been going on for almost 3 weeks and Symantec has not yet able to resolve it. Any help will be appreciated. Other symptoms: 1. Robot Diagnostics fails for 1 library (all 4 steps). 2. Robtest from the media servers controlling the library is successful. 3. Scan -changer shows the robot 4. Scan for a drive via Wizard configures the drive as standalone. 5. PC running Java Console is out of equation, issue is persistent from any PC.Solved1.6KViews0likes11CommentsHow to backup Netapp Ex2724 San with Netbackup 6
Hi All We have purchased a Netapp E series SAn EX2724,this can be managed only through SANtricity Stirage Manager Client. I need to know How I can configure Netbackup software v 7 to backup the LUN that is provided by the above NetappSAN to following operating system, Solaris, VMWARE ESXi 5.0, Windows and also the oracle database and also duplicate it on the Tape Drive. Hello, I have a situation where I have a Dell ML6000 with 2 LTO-5 SAS drives. The only place on my network that I can connect these SAS drives is directly into my NetApp filers. If I were to directly attach the tape drives to the NetApp, how would I manage backups using NetBackup? I have a NetBackup 7.5 master server on site as well. Is this configuration even possible or do I need to purchase a FC to SAS bridge? If it is possible, does anyone have documentation oh how to configure this? Thanks, RyanSolved1.5KViews1like3CommentsNetbackup Client with only SAN connectivity to Server, no LAN
Using a Netbackup 5230, and have a requirement to backup 2 servers that have only SAN connectivity to the appliance, no LAN connectivity possible. The FC configuration is complete and they can see each other, however, how exactly do I add the client without being able to connect over LAN? I have already tested backing up over FT on another server that has both SAN and LAN connectivity, and that works fine.Solved1.1KViews1like7CommentsAppliance 5230/Media server/BMR
