Explanation of EV queues
Running EV 7.5 on Windows 2003. Within Computer Management, I notice there are lots of different EV queues. EV Archive agent admin queue EV Default Admin queue EV Mailbox Task for server1 admin queue EV Restore Agent Admin queue EV Restore spool admin queue EV spool queue EV storage archive EV storage restore Generally, the Mailbox task queue is the busiest. Could someone explain to me what these queues mean? Is there an effect of deleting a queue if it's getting too large? Which queues are the ones we can delete etc?Solved13KViews3likes5CommentsRemove a Users Mailbox from Enterprise Vault Mailbox Archiving
How to Remote a User from Enterprise Vault (EV) mailbox Archiving Outlook for Windows I have had quite a few people ask to be removed from EV archiving for some reason or another. I recently had to spend a lot of time doing it and wanted to share with some people in hopes of making their job a little easier. It is a multi step process that must be carried out in order and will require the users interaction. Situation: A user in your environment needs to be removed from mailbox archiving and wants their Outlook to be like it was before EV was implented. The Fix: Export the users Archive to PST just in case something goes wrong. Use the export to PST option in Export Archive wizard. Basically, make a backup! Use the 'Export Archives to their original mailboxes' This will create duplicate items. The original message and the stub will exist. This action can re-create folders the user has deleted and will restore items to the original location when it was archived. You must make sure the mailbox in Exchange has enough room for growth as the mailbox will grow when you export the items from the mailbox back to the archive. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH35614 NOTE: This will also disable the users archive in EV. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH50905 This is the only way to do this. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/find-messages-or-items-with-a-search-folder-HA010354954.aspx See below for details on making the search folder. Use EVPM to Zap the EV properties from the user’s mailbox in Exchange. If EVPM wasn’t enough, remove the Hidden messages from the mailbox locally to clean up the Outlook mail client. (Optional, but I would do it to be through) EV might not delete the archive immediately. The server may be busy or waiting for another task to complete. Just follow up the next day. Create an Outlook search folder to locate all the mail stubs and delete them. Remove the user from the AD group that made them part of EV. Uninstall the Outlook plugin/add-on from the user’s mail client. Delete the user from EV. Optional: Skip step two and just delete the archive. Do the rest of the steps and give the user the PST you created in Step 1. Or you could open the PST data file in Outlook and drag the messages back into a folder on the OST (Users exchange mailbox). This will merge the PST archive back onto the Exchange database for that user (aka…their mailbox). Search Folder: Right Click “Search Folders” in the Navigation pane of Outlook. Choose “New Search Folder”. Give the search folder a name and choose the “Criteria”, then choose Advanced. The Field should be “Message Class” contains, Value= EnterpriseVault. Save your folder. This will find all the EV mail stubs in the users mailbox so you can delete them.4.4KViews1like5CommentsMigrate Exchange 2010 Archived Mailboxes to O365
One of our clients are migration their Exchange 2010 archived mailboxes to O365. The concern is that when the users are migrated, it will break the link (stub) between legacy EV and destination mailbox (on Exchange online)which will leave the users unable to access the historical data. Is there a way for users to have access to their legacyarchives while the mailbox is being migrated toO365? What are the migration options to maintain the stubb connection intact? Speaking to one 3rd party professional, he suggested that stubs loseconnection will depend how the users are migrated from Exch to O365. What method people follow to ensure continuity of legacy EV system? Any document to support the above discussion would be appreciated.Solved4KViews0likes10CommentsEV | Powershell | Enable Mailboxes for Archiving | How to?
Hi I would like to automate this procedure using Powershell. Do you have an example of a Powershell script which can be used? When I manually enable the mailboxes for archive all I do is use the "Enable mailboxes for Archiving" > List all available mailboxes > New mailboxes only > selectthe user > go next Vault Store and Retention Category are defaults> next The mailboxe primary account > next Immediatly using the default archivning settings > Finish I will then create a shell so all I need to do is insert the username. I have not used my EV 10 lab for a few month but I now want to do some further configuration, however I now get the above error when I try to open the EV administration console. In event viewer I also get the following errors: source - Distributed COM - Event ID 10016 - The application-specific permission settings do not grant Remote Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID source - Enterprise Vault - Event ID 40975 - Unable to access the Directory Service on EVSERVER. Does anyone know what the problem might be?Solved3.6KViews0likes2CommentsUnable to open archived items in a shared mailbox.
Dear Experts, a Weird problem: I can open archived items in a number of shared mailboxes without any trouble at all. However in one shared mailbox, the following process occurs. I click on the item shortcut, this is followed by a dialogue box with a green progress bar and 'Enterprise Vault is retrieving your item.'and 'Your password may be required...' A further 'Windows Security' dialogue box opens listing my domain\userid and requiring a password to be entered. If I enter the password, the 'Windows Security' panel closes and reopens again with the same credentials (my credentials). If I respond with a 'Cancel' instead of the password, I receive the content of the shortcut item, with a dark grey band containing the legend "Thisitem was archived by Enterprise Vault on 14 June 2014 14:47:38" and "There was an error loading this item - some functionality may not be available". If I click on View the original item, which is displayed in the body of the shortcut, as a link, I am again prompted with my domain\userid credentials. I enter my password and receive the disappointing result of a new browser panel that contains the helpful legend 'Symantec Enterprise Vault - Error' on a yellow background with, on a new line: 'You do not have access to this vault'. I have checked the access control rights for the shared mailbox - they appear to be correct. I checked the access control rights for the archive in Enterprise Vault via the VAC and they do not appear to be incorrect. [There are some users/ groups with automatically set access rights that I can neither change nor delete. I do not know how to use the oft referred to "zap process".I'm sure that it is simple if you've seen it used, but I've never seen it used !!] This ocurrs for any archived item in this particular shared mailbox. I can still open archived items in other shared mailboxes. I am clearly missing something obvious in this process. a touch of not seeing the wood for the trees, possibly. Please put me on the path to joy and success ?3.5KViews1like17CommentsSolved - "An administrative policy prevents you from viewing this item in the Reading Pane"
This isinformational to those that have upgraded to EV 10.0.2 from EV 9 and are using Virtual Vault. If you are creating a new Desktop Policy you no longer have the option Show content in Reading Pane -Always show content. This is foundunder Advanced, Virtual Vault, Setting for Show content in Reading Pane,Value is Always show content. This was problematic for our end users. They did not like the restriction "An administrative policy prevents you from viewing this item in the Reading Pane." My workaround was to copy a Desktop Policy that was created when we were using EV 9. Right click on a policy and choose Copy Policy. Give it a new nameand update all the other Settings but leave Show content in Reading Pane set to Always show content. Run Provisioning and Synchronize mailboxes. The usersareonce againable to view items in their reading pane.Solved2.6KViews0likes4CommentsHelp!
