Hi Everyone, I am facing a problem while installing the master server setup on a windows 2008 r2 sp1 machine. The setup goes on fine till the stage where it calls and waits for the completion of tpext.exe command. When the command is initialized and I check the services column I find the nbemm.exe services running and after a while the execution attempts to stop the nbemm.exe service and proceed ahead for the setup to complete. Now the issue is the setup keeps itself waiting for hours for the tpext.exe command completion which doesn't complete just because the setup on its own is unable to stop the nbemm.exe service. When I manually kill the nbemm.exe service via command line the setup proceeds ahead and gives the message of successful installation. But when I start the console and in host properties when I click on master server it gives the error "Unable to communicate with the EMM server : 77 " "Unable to list the devices". I have tried formatting the system. Also upgrading the Netbackup version to 7.5.0.3 but in vain. Kindly help me with this issue.Solved1.9KViews8likes8CommentsNetBackup 7.6.0.2 (NetBackup 7.6 Maintenance Release 2) is now available!

I have windows 2008 R2 x64 Master and an MSDP server which acts as a backup host. I recently upgraded them to 7.5 and since then the browse feature didn't work. If you have a large VMware environment then you have likely enable the registry key"DisableIPResolution" - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH128037 The upgrade appears to now require that this registry key to be a "DWORD (32-bit) Value" with the data value of 1 INSTEAD of a string value. If you don't change this then you will likely see the following error in the bpVMutil log: 11:48:13.485 [4520.5008] checkBackupRegEntry: searching configuration for disableIPResolution 11:48:13.485 [4520.5008] get_integer_value failed 11:48:13.485 [4520.5008] checkBackupRegEntry: searching configuration for UseNicIpaddress 11:48:13.485 [4520.5008] get_integer_value failed Hope this helps those that upgrade to 7.5 and face this issue Cheers555Views6likes2CommentsNetBackup 7.6.0.4 (NetBackup 7.6 Maintenance Release 4) is now available!

(crossposted from the Netting Out NetBackup blog) With NetBackup 7.5 now on the horizon, it's time to make sure you're aware of the coming end of support for NetBackup 6.x. It's hard to believe it will have been seven years since the NetBackup 6.0 release! On October 3, 2012, NetBackup 6.x will reach End of Support Life (EOSL). This includes ALL 6.0 maintenance packs and 6.5 Release Updates. The NetBackup 6.x EOSL means that in order to continue receiving NetBackup support, an upgrade to NetBackup 7.x will be necessary. Version 7.1.0.3 is the latest available update today. (The 7.1.0.4 maintenance release is expected to see release in March. It is expected that this will be the final 7.1 update.) In March 2012, NetBackup 7.5 GA will also be available as an upgrade path. There is no cost to upgrade for customers with a current maintenance contract; however, you may find that additional or updated hardware is needed.Use SORT to help shine a light on any hurdles to your upgrade. Did you know we also sell NetBackup Appliances? They can also be an effective strategy to achieve both a software and hardware refresh. A: The EOSL is a milestone for opening new cases. Your case will remain open and work will continue until your issue is resolved. Q: Can I still use NetBackup 6.x clients with 7.x servers in a supported configuration? A: You can, but after the NetBackup 6.x EOSL date, no support will be provided for them. Are there other questions? Please ask me here or contact your sales engineer! PLEASE don't get caught in an unsupported configuration in October - if NetBackup 6.x is still in your enterprise, start making your plans NOW!2KViews5likes14CommentsMedia Server (with MSDP) Upgrade OS from 2008 R2 to 2012 R2
IHAC, that wants to upgrade from 2008 R2 to 2012 R2 on their media servers. Currently they are running NetBackup 7.6.0.2 and I figured we should update the NetBackup to 7.6.1.1(or 2) prior to any OS upgrade so the NetBackup will work. I was also thinking we should be able to do the following if upgrading the OS is a bad idea: On the GUI set the media server to be deactivated Stop NetBackup on the media server Backup Registry (just in case… don’t see why I would need it) Unmounts the MSDP disks Install Windows 2012 R2 with the same Server name and IP. Install NetBackup on the new server Stop NetBackup on the media server Mount the MSDP disks Start NetBackup on the media server On the GUI set the media server to be active and see if I can see the disk pool. Those steps above seem too easy on face value… I got be missing something logically. Anyway has anybody done an OS upgrade on a Media server running NetBackup with an MSDP pool? Did it work? What steps did you do to protect the MSDP?Solved948Views4likes4Comments
