Virtual Machine Backups Suddenly Got Slow
Hello, In December, our backups of VMWare full virtual machines suddenly slowed way down. At that time a staff admin recreated datastores and bumped the VMFS version from 5 to 6. There were no other changes that I'm aware of. Agent based backups run fine. Only Virtual machine backups run poorly now. It doesn't matter whether I backup to disk or tape, they never achieve a rate above 300 MB/min. Ideas on where the bottleneck is? Something is limiting the communication from Backup Exec to vCenter. I have a case open with support, but they are not figuring it out. I run BE 21.4 on a physical Windows 2016 server. Backup targets are NAS appliances and direct attached SAS tape drives. The server has teamed NIC that connect to three VLAN's: data to servers, second to NAS appliances, and third to underlying SAN appliances that host our VMWare environment. Our VMWare is old: 6.5. Thanks for your help. Ray770Views0likes1CommentAnyone get more than 140MB/sec network backup speed from System Recovery?
I'm looking for a backup program capable of filling a 10Gb pipe, and in the near future, a 100Gb connection. In my lab, I have two Intel Xeon E5-2500 servers with10Gb NICs, 55GB Ram Drives and freshly installed Windows Server 2019. The 10Gb NICs are cross-connected and Windows file copying (SMB) a large file to a mapped network drive fills the 10Gb pipe at nearly 940 MB /sec (94% of the 10Gb connection). However, frustratingly, that performance is never seen with Veritas System Recovery (VSR). The fastest VSR will write uncompressed through the network connection is 1.4Gb/sec (~140MB/sec), even though the entire 10Gb pipe is wide open, and even after trying all the Performance registry hacks (Default is still the fastest performance). What should realistically be expected of VSR?1.8KViews0likes4CommentsBE Slow SystemState Backup
Was wondering if anyone has seen this issue or has a fix We have been noticing that for some of our customers that the backup jobs been taking longer than they used to and it seems to come down to the SystemState portion of the backup. It seems to have almost doubled / two and half times increase in the amount of time it takes vs before. (where it used to be about 45 min now closer to 2hrs) This seems to be across BE verions (20.3 and 20.5) and Server verions (2016, 2019) and it just seems for 1 customer it seems to have been the latest November Windows Updates, but have been seeing this before with different customers as well prior to the november updates Been doing tests as well in my test enviroment to try to find a cause / common reason but cant seem to find one578Views0likes0CommentsSlow backup to tape
Hi, We're having some trouble backing up virtual and physical servers to tape. We're not getting the speed it should get and it takes up a lot of time to back up the environment. 2,63TB of data takes up more than 24 hours. Information about job, tape & tape drive: Tape type:HPE LTO Ultrium 6 6,25TB MP RW Tape Drive: MSL 2024 Compression: Hardware Encryption: None Verify: Yes These backups are going through the internal network within the domain. The average backup speed is 4,300MB/m (which is way to slow) When we backup locally on the backup server (for example the D:\ drive where the incremental disk backups are saved on the backup server) it gets to a speed of 10500MB/m. Which is understandable considering it's a straight connection to the tape drive. What did we do to try and resolve it: * Checked the compression * Checked encryption * Replaced tapes for new tapes * Resetted the tape drive * Updated Tapedrive firmware * Checked out the network for inconsistencies (not found), file transfers via other apps around 126mbs from server to server) * Job from VM on hyper-visor to tape (around 2,900 MB/m) * Local disk to tape (between 10500MB/M and 13500MB/M) * VM to disk on the backup server (Around 6200MB/M) Help would be appreciated.1.9KViews0likes2CommentsEV 11 New search initial load times too high
We will be moving EV 12 soon so I was testing the new search in EV 11. We are on 11.0.1 CH5 and have Outlook 2016 users. I enabled the search for a few users including me and everytime I click on search archive, it takes 5 to 10 minutes for the page to load. With the old search the page opens in about 20 seconds and search works instantly. The delay is always on the initial load. Once the page is loaded, it will work fine with the searches. I have tested with different servers names but same results. Is the new search supposed to be this slow during the initial load?Solved1.2KViews0likes1Comment
