Add LTO6 in BackupExec 2012

how to? i'ts posible?

  • Add a drive?

    Simple...

    1. Connect to the media server.

    2. Restart the BE services and the device should appear.

    3. RUn tapeinst.exe to load the Symantec drivers for the device. In Windows Device Manager, make sure that if the device is an autoloader/library, the robotics shows up as "Unknown medium changer"

    4. Target your jobs at it.

Just make sure that the device is listed as supported on the BE 2012 HCL:

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH175582.html

Also, if this is an autoloader/library and it has more than 1 tape drive, you need a Library Expansion Option license for every additional drive for it to work. The first drive is covered by the media server.

    Thanks!

  • If it is a tape library, make sure that it is function correctly in the Windows Device Manager and is listed as an Unknown Medium Changer with a Microsoft driver.

  • Yes, it is possible to use LOT6 in BE 2012.  But LTO6 isn't supported with the old original shipping version of BE 2012.  Per the HCL, you must install the required patches to BE 2012, either manually or via LiveUpdate.
