Backup Exec 15 - Network Share

Hi,

I installed backup exec 15 and added a network share as a destination for the backups.

The server hosting my file share run windows 2012.

Can I add a file share running on a NAS. I'm looking at Buffalo Terra Station 7000 series with over 70 TB hard disks.

What are the requirements in order to backup to a network share ? Does it need to be a Windows Server or can any NAS supporting CIFS or SMB would be ok?

Thanks,

Paul

  • Yes, it will run with the core BE as well. The footnote just says that it will work with the Appliance as well.

  • Hi.

    Thanks for the reply.

I can't seem to open the link.

I did check  Backup Exec 2014 its supported

    TeraStation 7000 [1] CIFS 4 S TeraStation 7120r, TeraStation 7120r Enterprise
    TeraStation 7000 iSCSI 4 4 TeraStation 7120r, TeraStation 7120r Enterprise

    But there is a note:

    1. Supported with the BE 3600 R3 appliance.

Will this run just on Backup Exec edition (not the appliance) ?

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Here is the HCL

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH227895

If the NAS does not appear on the HCL, then test its functionality with the B2DTest utility below

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH69107

If it passes all the test, then it is o.k.

You would also need to purchase and install a remote agent licence for each remote server/device that you back up.  This is regardless of whether you can install the remote agent on the device or not.
