Backup Exec 2010 R3 - Remote Agent Install

I have sucessfully moved Backup Exec R3 from one server to another.  When it was installe don the first server all the agents were installed on the computers needed for backup.   When I moved it to the new server two computers cannot install the agent from the console.  It gives the error message:

Error connecting to remote computer.  Ensure that the computer is available, has WMI enabled, and is not blocked by a firewall.24

These two computers are Domain Controllers and need to be backup up.

Thank You for your help.

  •  Hi,

You can try the manual install of remote agent

1  : Copy the RAWS32/RAWS64 and the MSXML folders on the remote server

2  : Run setup.exe from the RAWS32/RAES64 folder and complete the install.

3  : Make sure to enable "Publishing" on the remote agent http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH63655

    manual install of remote agent

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH30491

Now browse the servers in Backup Exec Media Server.

    Hope this helps...

  • Thank you for your help, unfortunatley that didn't fix the problem.  From what I can see both servers now have the remote agent installed (manually) and both agents are pointed to our media server.  The '!' is gone in the favorites list, but the media server still gives me that error when I go to

TOOLS> Install Agents and Media Servers on Other Servers>

I try to connect to the remote computers and that error pops up.  I have followed both KB's to try to fix the problem.

Are there any other ideas out there?

    Thank You.

  • Hi,

Are you able to ping the remote server?

Are you able to telnet the remote server from the backup exec server using port 10000?

  • On the remote server, make sure that the Remote Registry Service is up and running.

  • It looks like it fixed itself when I manually installed the agent.

    Thank You.
