Backup Exec version history

Backup Exec versioning changed from number-based (7,8,9,..) to years-based (2010,2012,..). However, the numbers-based versioning is still there, for example in the database (bedb.dbo.Version).

Could you help me fill in the gaps? (marked with question marks below)

Seagate Backup Exec 7.2 1998
VERITAS Backup Exec 7.31999
VERITAS Backup Exec 8.0 2000
VERITAS Backup Exec 8.6 2001
VERITAS Backup Exec 9.0 2003
VERITAS Backup Exec 9.1  2003
VERITAS Backup Exec 10.0 2005
Symantec Backup Exec 10d 2005
Symantec Backup Exec 11d 2006
Symantec Backup Exec 12 2008[4]
Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 2008
Symantec Backup Exec 2010 13.0
Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R2 ?????
Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 ?????
Symantec Backup Exec 2012 14.0
Symantec Backup Exec 2014 ?????

There should be a version 13.5 somewhere.

  • OK BE 7.x had more than one public release as did some of the other versions so here is the list I have going back to 7.x

    7.0 = 7.0.727

    7.2 = 7.2.1616

    7.3 = 7.3.2575

    8.0 = 8.0.3316

    8.5 = 8.5.3571

    8.6 = 8.6.3878 (I think this was the NSE release that first implemented a CASO style concept)

    9.0 = 9.0.4454

    9.1 = 9.1.4691

    10.0 = 10.0.5484 - released 2005

    10.0 = 10.0.5520 - released 2005

    10D = 10.1.5629 - released 2005 (This introduced the now discontinued CPS replication technology. Also the first with Symantec 'yellow' branding instead of Veritas 'black and red')

    11.0 = 11.0.6235 - released 2006 (this release may also have been called 11D)

    11D = 11.0.7170

    12.0 = 12.0.1364 - released 2008

    12.5 = 12.5.2213 - released 2008

    2010 = 13.0.2896 - released 2010

    2010 R2 = 13.0.4164

    2010 R3 = 13.0.5204

    2012 = 14.0.1798 - released 2012

    2014 current beta = 14.1.1520 (of course the public release of this and possibly subsequent beta releases will have different build numbers)

    BTW you can get the release and support dates for the newer versions by going here:

  • Hi,

    BE 2010 R1, R2 and R3 were simply revision changes. BE 2010 R3 was 13.0.4204.

    BE 2014 currently is in Beta so I wouldn't go with a version number here until it is released. There is no 13.5 at all.

    Thanks!

  • The 3rd (4 digit) section of your version numbers is not the actual version/build number for any of the release versions. I will try and dig out the correct details.

    Also please note that the build numbers and the database version/schema numbers are never/rarely the same either so if you are loooking at the database content and not the file version information you might see a different set of numbers.
