Do you need a back up of Index DB in SharePoint

I have been having a lot of issues with a SPS backup using Veritas 10.0 Rev. 5520. Right now I have Veritas backing up all of the site but it is getting caught up on Index DB 1 and I was wondering if this is even required.

I was wondering if anyone knew why Veritas cannot access this file and if this file is even required in a restore. I can't see why it would be required since this is just the indexing service.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
