Drive size limit for Hyper-V & GRT backups

Check this TN for the BE 3600 appliance where it mentions GRT for disks around 2040GB and lower...seems as if you might have hit that limit:

Yes, it is a VM being backedup by a VM. I have only been getting this error for about three weeks.I do need grt on this drive. I will try and delete some files t o get me below 2T and see what happens.

V-79-57344-38724 - Directory 'F' does not support Granular Recovery Technology (GRT).  Granular restores cannot be performed for items in this directory.

It's the actual disk size in terms of physical VHD, not the logical size within the guest OS. Check the TN and it explains it to you. So decreasing the size by removing files is only going to be relevant if you can shrink the VHD under the 2040GB mentioned in that TN.

Thanks - that is interesting. So the 2040 does not apply to Server 2012R2. Further investigation is needed.

Run LiveUpdate and make sure you are on BE 15 HF2 and any additional patches...

Thanks - I am not on Feature Pack 2 yet, I was trying to establish if there was something more serious such as drive size giving the problem first.
