Thanks this is helpful.
Now back to NAS off line.
Well here it is the next day and the NAS again is off line.
Yesterday I created new folder on the NAS. I changed all the old jobs to point to the new folder. It actually did some jobs right then and I manually did some backups. It all worked well. Now, this morning both the old and the new Folder are off line.
I have read the document that you originally pointed me to. ( 236295)
(by the way some of the pictures seem different than my software I could not find a window titled "Media Information" in Alerts or anywhere else. This made it a little confusing for me. However I think I found the screens they were referring to with different titles)
There are a few things that seem odd.
1. When I go to alerts there is a there is a Media error that matches the error listed on the document 236295. However strangely its not toady's 10th but rather the Time Alert Record is 11:00 PM on the 8th two days ago. The time matches my job that failed to run but the date doesn't. In fact there are no related Alerts for the 9th or 10th despite the fact that both days the NAS went off line. The error message for the 8th is the one listed in the document 236295. "the backup-to-disk device is offline" Same details as in document.
I have by the way checked all the clocks on the systems involved and they all seem to be in sync.
2. When I go to the event viewer. The events do seem to show the same kinds of errors listed int he document.
It actually does record to-days failure.
Here are the error messages.

Computer:BACKUP
Description:
Backup Exec Alert: Media Error
(Server: "BACKUP") The Backup-to-Disk device is offline.
This is typically caused by the folder becoming inaccessible due to it being deleted,
renamed, or unshared. It may also be caused by a disk full condition. The folder
state has been set to offline. Please attend to this condition. Additional detail
may be found in the Event Viewer - Application Log.

When I go to devices and look at the the folder (two of them now) and right click on them. The menu says . All grayed out. I think the document says that the Paused item will be checked. It is NOT. Enabled is Checked and as I said grayed out.
Black are .
When I look at Job Monitor I see that the Device is Paused for all of the jobs waiting for the NAS to go back on line.
3. I suppose the question is which comes first the chicken or the eg.
Is the failure happening because:
A. NAS is unavailable. Which based on everything I have seen is not true, that is it seems to be on line all night long,
B. Some service or something is not being detected by Veritas. (when I restart the service everything goes back on line. (which seems to indicate that it is not a network disconnection error. Since I do nothing to the network to get it back on line.
By the way as i look at the services running on the Veritas computer, ( I have not changed anything since the device went off line last night)

Hope I'm not too verbose.
