SDR recovery of Domain Controller

Hi, our customer's Backup Exec is Backup Exec 2014 SP2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. There are two domain controllers in the network, one active and one standby. Both domain controllers are running on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. We are going to test SDR recovery of one of the domain controllers.

My question is:

Is it possible to recover DC by SDR? If yes, are there any special requirements or settings that we need to take note?

Thanks in advance.

  • Yes, the DC can be recovered using SDR. No special considerations as such though afaik, this would be a non-authoritative restore of the DC.

  • ...follow Microsoft's step-by-step guide to recover a DC, be it non-authoritative or authoritative. They will be the best guide around this from an AD perspective.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks for your replies.

We tested to restore the standby DC. However, after the restoration, there are some issues with the restored DC. According to the system administrator, the netlogon and DNS service in the restored DC seem do not work. The replication between the two DCs do not work either.

    Any ideas regarding this? Thanks.

  • This seems to be expected behavior as per this KB - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH198840
