SQLAgent$Bkupexec Event ID: 318 System error

I am getting a W2K3 Enterprise Edition System error in the event log as follows:

*****************************************
Event Type:Error
Event Source:SQLAgent$BKUPEXEC
Event Category:Alert Engine
Event ID:318
Date:3/16/2005

Description:
Unable to read local eventlog (reason: The event log file has changed between read operations).

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
******************************************

After the error I get an informational message in the System event log as follows:

*******************************************

Event Category:Alert Engine
Event ID:311
Date:3/16/2005

Computer:SQL-1600SC
Description:
Attempting to to re-open the local eventlog...

which is immediate followed by a warning event ID:

**********************************************
Event Type:Warning
Event Source:SQLAgent$BKUPEXEC
Event Category:Alert Engine
Event ID:312
Date:3/16/2005
Time:10:26:28 AM
User:N/A
Computer:SQL-1600SC
Description:
Successfully re-opened the local eventlog - NOTE: Some events may have been missed.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
****************************************************
When I delete the log, the items instantly reappear.

I have a separate instance of SQL-Server 2000 installed on the media server and don't get any error messages related to that instance.

I am running the patched version of 9.1(Rev. 4691) with AOF, Remote Server and SQL agent options.

Any idea as to what this is about and how to correct the problem?

  • Hi,

In order to isolate the issue, please reapply MDAC 2.8 from the following link:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6c050fe3-c795-4b7d-b037-185d0506396c&DisplayLang=en

(copy and paste the entire thing)

    We hope this will help.

    Thanks.
