Looking to search by exact term and case sensitive

We are running DA 9.0 on a windows 2008 R2 server with the reviewer running the search from a windows xp machine.  He is looking to search for an exact term i.e. xyz.  If he puts in the search for "X...

Putting "XYZ" in double quotes will provide hits on just XYZ in any combination of upper and lower case letters.  EV normalizes all text to lower case as part of the indexing process, so DA cannot distinguish between upper and lower case letters.  Sorry.

Note that you need to use standard double quotes when specifying the search terms only when looking for phrases.  Just using XYZ without the double quotes will return hits that match that letter string.  If your reviewer wants more than just XYZ, one or more wild cards characters can be used.  A question mark means exactly one character in that location.  An asterisk means any number of characters beginning in that location.  All wild cards need to be preceeded by at least 3 characters.

I hope this information answers your reviewer's questions. Please let us know if or your reviewer have any more questions about search criteria.

    Hi,

If you search for "XYZ" in DA 9 then the search will look for XYZ.

If you search for XYZ* then the search will look for any phrase starting with XYZ with any amount of characters after that. You are also able to use other wildcards to replace a single character as well as other options.

Here is the reviewers guide for DA9  - http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC2859

If you look at page 17 onwards you will find the section related to search criterior, the part relating to specific searches and wildcards is on page 19 through to 21, look for the section named 'Search Term Selection'

DA Searches are CASE-INSENSITIVE so either "xyz" or "XYZ" will produce the same results.

Have a look at this link which holds all of the documentation for EV/DA/CA 9  incase it is of help to you -  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH140748
