enterprise vault storage migration

I am about to move my vault store partitions to new storage attached to the existing vault server.

I am following the steps listed here:

1. set vault into backup mode, stop services.

2. copy data

3. edit SQL database to contain new locations

4. start services and clear backup mode

 

I currently have 6 vault store partitions, 5 closed, 1 open.

My question is: Do I need to have backup mode set and services stopped to copy the 5 closed partition data?

I'm concerned at the amount of downtime required to copy the complete set.

    Not sure if it is required to set the closed partitions in backup mode, but if you are concerned about the downtime during copy, why don't you pre-copy all data with robocopy in front (just with the services running and not in backup mode) and run a robocopy again at the final migration stage. Then robocopy only has to check all files/folders for changes. This does take less time than copy all data.
