SharePoint Archiving configuration

IHAC where we are implementing EV for SharePoint archiving. The customers SharePoint infrastructure is below:

a) One Application server

b) Two Front end servers

c) One Fast search server

  • EV SharePoint components have been installed and configured on the two Front end servers.
  • The SharePoint url have been added to 'Intranet sites', 'Automatic logon' enabled for Intranet.
  • EV Service Account granted 'Full Control' in SharePoint as per EV requirements
  • No firewall and telnet works fine. The SharePoint url opens
  • While Symantec documentation does not mention requirement of the EV SharePoint components on the Application server (except in few cases that do not qualify here), Symantec support recommended installing the same: Questions:
  1. While installing the EV SharePoint component on the application server, we got an error stating that the 'http module' did not install. Is this module supposed to install on the SharePoint application server?
  2. The SharePoint url simply fails to add as a target in EV with the generic error. Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

  • 1. Could you please check Ev install Log for the error . Is you "SQL Server (OFFICESERVERS)" service is set to manual as this could be one of the reason why the http module would not install.

    2. Can you access the Sharepoint URL from the EV server  ?

Refer the SharePoint Archiving Configuration Guide

  • Hello Denis,

You have mentioned that EV components have been installed in Front end servers. And you do have application and search servers in the farm.

The Setting_up_SharePoint_Server_Archiving.pdf documentation says to install the Enterprise Vault components on each of the following in your SharePoint farm:

-Servers running the Web Front-End role
-The server running the Sharepoint Central Administration site
-Servers running a Sharepoint Search Service

I believe, you will need to install EV components on other servers as well such as Application and Search servers.

    I hope this helps..

  • How about installing components on Search server? Does it fail with same error?

  • The server is a SharePoint Fastsearch server that does not host any normal 'SharePoint search' component. Hence, EV components are not required there. Moreover running the setup doesnt enable the 'SharePoint components' option.

@ Rahul - I do not see any "SQL Server (OFFICESERVERS)" service on the Application server. Are you referring to the database server?

  • Yaa it can be on the database server as well. We just need to make sure the SQL services for the sharepoint databases are not stopped and set to manual.
