There is two server in my test environment, one is a real server with NetBackup Master & Media Server installed, another is a VM with NetBackup client. My purpose is to test backup of Oracle DB on client in two ways: a) Create script or specify backup path on Master server and run it with policy on master server; b) Backup from client, Files or DB backups should be automanticly backed up to specified path on the Master Server. Then I come to the problems: 1. I can do file backup with both method a and method b; 2. I can do Oracle backup only method a, but the backups of Oracle only locate on client, nothing on Master Server; 3. I see a tns error as well , look that up too or ask your DBA. Thats also a name resolution issue within oracle. Its not the first error, so it might be as a result of the first error. Jim

check for the the correct entry of the master server in the rman script. NB_ORA_SERV contains the master server info.it shud be same as the first entry in the bp.conf file on client server.

Backup oracle failed on client ... HELP HELP ...

your RMAN script could be right , please check your RMAN command which you were using .

But I found I have no idea of "</home/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin/rman target / nocatalog>" , I suppose it should be called by NetBackup or I should do some confiugration to change command it use ?

if you initiate the RMAN backups from the client . Netbackup wont call the RMAN script .

how did you initiate your Oracle backup from the client ?

By click next of NetBackup for Oracle Backup Wizard ...when it comes to the step NetBackup Configuration Variables , I specify Backup policy name , Schedule name by the policy I create on Master Server, then save it as a template.

Check connectivity between client and master server. You need to ensure proper forward and reverse name lookup between client and master.

Do the following on master:

bpclntcmd -hn <client-name>
bpclntcmd -IP <client-IP>

Do the following on client:

bpclntcmd -self
bpclntcmd -hn <master-name>
bpclntcmd -IP <master-IP>

Also check/verify that port 1556 is open in both directions between client and master.
