Drives Showing Missing Paths

Couple of drives showing missing paths , I have deleted and Re-configured the drives after verifying correct serial.no. of the drives but there is no Luck.

Still drives are showing missing paths...

We can see the 15 tape drives  at device manager in the windows 2008 media server  but from tpautoconf  it is showing only 12 Tape drives.

Here we are using Windows 2008 Media server with 7.5 Netbackup version.

Master Server:- Linux Master server 2.6.32-279.22.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Feb 5 12:18:08 PST 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux with Netbackup 7.5 version.

Can any one in the Forum help me out in resolving the issue please

  • tpautoconf seeing 12 drives means that you have 3 drives not responding to scsi-commands.

Check Windows Event Viewer System log for errors.

You can also try to delete all tape drives in Windows Device Manager and then rescan. See if all devices come back and check System log for errors.

Use HBA tool (e.g. SanSurfer for QLogic HBA) to see if all devices can be seen and if Persistent Binding is in place.

    PS:
15 tape drives on a single server seems excessive...
Even the most powerful server will battle to stream more than 3 drives.

  • What does the output of SCAN (INSTALL_PATH\Veritas\Volmgr\bin) show? It will tell you what the OS can really see. Device manager is sometimes not very accurate.

Also, have you rebooted the windows host?
