Eject backup tapes from NB volume pool

I quiet didn't get what you mean?

Where are you moving these tapes?

Once you have the tapes used in NBU it anyways will have record of it. What ever you do with the tapes the NBU database will make a record of it. Are you planning to relable these tapes or would be using the tapes in different setup????

Marianne is Outstanding!! You remember all the post it seems and I will really appricate if you could tell us how you manage your database. ?

ok the tapes were have a backups on it and not used now and i cannot able to write again on it ,,  so all i want is

1- to extract this tapes and keeping the data on it

2- and make netbackup feel with this eject

3- and replace the tape library with new tapes

1> You can either do it manually by ejecting the tapes as mentioned in Marianne post or use vault management to eject the tapes. Read about this in Vault Management Admin guide

2>When you eject the tapes from NBU, NBU alredy aware of it.

3> Put the new tapes in the library MAC and run the inventory.

,  but for "1>  i want to  use vault management to eject the tapes.  can you help me in this ..thanks

Firstly - do you have licensing for Vault?

Vault is meant for regular ejects where you set up profiles to select certain images, volume pools, clients... etc written in a particular date range to be duplicated and/or ejected. Not really worth it if you want to eject every now and then.

Really too much to cover in a single post.

If you want to eject a couple of tapes manually and ensure NBU and the robot are both up to date, follow these steps:

Manually select the tapes in the Media section of the GUI, right-click, select  “Eject Volume(s) from Robot….”
A new window will open with 'pre-checks' on the list of tapes to be ejected. 

After a short while NetBackup will complete the eject pre-checks.

If the list is correct, click “Eject”.

This will eject all the media listed into the Media Ejection Port  (MAP/CAP) on the library. Once all media has been moved into the CAP, a pop up will appear asking "Do you want to continue with the eject?". Do NOT click YES as yet.
You can now go to the Library and remove the tapes from the  CAP. 
Once you have removed the tapes and closed the CAP (wait ±2 mins), click on YES on the above screen.

NB. Only click “Yes” after you have removed the tapes from the CAP.

Once completed, “Eject success” will be displayed. 
Click on Close to update Media List.

ok i will read Vault Management Admin guide and back to you ..  , but for the other way you mentioned if i do it by ejecting tape with out using vault methods in this case is the data on the tape can be used again when i need by putting the required tape on CAP/MAP and load it  ??

Yes. Your data will be untouched. The only thing that can damage your data on tape is physical damage to the tape while out of the robot.

NBU will know the tape is not in the library. Image database will still have media-id for each image-id. When tape is needed for a restore, NBU will prompt you to put the tape back in the library. 

Restore job will say something like "Media id XXXX is not in robotic library. Manual intervention is required".
