Hi to all, i want to create an exlude list to clients UNIX and LINUX. I know that with the backup and restore client application i can create it, but the issue here is that i administrate the Netbackup infraestructure but not the client machines. So i want to create and exclude list and give it to the client administrator to put on the specific directory.i have read that the path for the exclude list file should be:"On UNIX clients, you create the exclude and include lists in the following files on theclient:/usr/openv/netbackup/exclude_list/usr/openv/netbackup/include_list"so i have to create the file exclude_list and put him there.my question is... whats the content of the file?imagine that i want to exclude the directory /usr/test/ and the file /usr/test.exe what should i put on the exclude list file? thanks in advance :)

echo "/usr/test/" > exclude_list
echo "/usr/test.exe" >> exclude_list

remember that this will exclude them for all policies that backup the particular server. If you want to exclude them from only a certain policy or schedule then:

exclude_list[[.<policyName>][.<schedule_name>]]

Be aware that the purpose of include_list is not to add certain folders or diskdrives to a backup.
That is the purpose of the file list in the backup policy.

Include lists can only include files and directories that are listed in the exclude lists so that they are not excluded.

I would clarify one point on the example you were given.

if your exclude file has
/usr/test/

it will exclude the entire contents of test as well as the dir test.

if you have
/usr/test/*

it will exclude the entire contest of test but still backup the dir.

the point here being that if you do a complete restore of usr in the first example it would NOT recreate the test dir. in the second example it WOULD recreate the test dir but would have nothing to put in it.

someone correct me if I am wrong on this point.

In the document, they refer to a directory list that has 'users' then user names. I have used exclude lists to exclude our user's Trash folders. Now that we are about to begin deleting user's trash, I have to get a backup first, in case someone has something in their trash that they wanted to keep (please no comments on the concept of storing something you want to keep in Trash...). I tried using the same path that we use for the backup selection list in a new policy and added /*/=+Trash to the end of the string. The * is where the user name would be. I don't have a way to populate every user name in the company as there are thousands of email accounts. This is a Solaris server (both client & master), running 6.5.1. Any ideas?

i copied an exclude list from our old backup server to our new one and made some minor changes. i noticed that the perms were -rw-r--r--. Should the perms be changed to -rwxr-xr-x or should they remain the same?

No need to worry about permissions

Leave the permission on the exclude list as it was earlier minimum it should have read.

Until its in the correct path /usr/openv/netbackup, netbackup will read it and implement it
