How to take raw devices backup?

I have assign 132 gb lun from stoarge. and mounted it.

Eg: /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0   mounted on /mnt   ----132GB

Now i want to take raw disk back.

Kindly suggest for taking back up.

  • You just specify the raw device in the file selection in the policy.

    For example.

    /devices/pci@1e,600000/pci@0/pci@9/pci@0/scsi@1/sd@0,0:d

Have you checked the Admin Guide for this , it is all explained in there.

  • Raw Restore is also documented in Admin Guide I. under the topic 'UNIX raw partitions':

To restore the raw partition, make sure that a device file exists. Also, the partition where the table is restored must be large enough or the results of the restore are unpredictable.

      Hi Marianne,

Is there any specific document for Unix raw partition backup?

        Yes. NBU Admin Guide I.

I am closing this topic as the original query has been solved.
  • Just restore in BAR like normal file backup. One difference is choosing RAW Partition Backup as Restore type. If you want to restore onto alternate disk, select "restore individual directories and files to different locations" and enter device file of target disk.
  • Yes we will help  you but need few more info about existing environment.

what NBU version on master server

as u said -- "132 gb lun from stoarge. and mounted it."

is that lun mounted on  VM or physical H/W ?? also let us know what OS on this ??

  • I have taken backup using physical path as mentioned above:

    /devices/pci@1e,600000/pci@0/pci@9/pci@0/scsi@1/sd@0,0:d

But could you assist me how to restore the raw backup.
