Installing/Upgrading NBU Linux Client from NBU Windows Master Server

Hi,

I need to know if it is possible to install/upgrade NBU Linux Clients from NBU Windows Master Server. I went through the LInux Admin Guide and didn't get an answer. If this is possible please let me know how this is done.

Greatly Appreciated

Thanks

  • it is not possible

you need to copy Linux binaries to LINUX host and start installation script.

you didn't mentioned existing NBU version ??

if u r planning to upgrade 7.X version then you need 64 bit Hardware else dont go for 7.X version.

  • Thanks..but can NBU Linux clients communicate with NBU Windows Master Server?

The version is 6.5.4. I'm upgrading to latest version

  • they can communicate just fine but you cannot do remote install as noted above.

  • Correct. You need to upgrade each client locally.

Unix masters have client software installed on the master itself that can be pushed to clients. This is not possible with Windows master servers.

This is described in the Installation Guides:

NBU Installation Guide for UNIX and Linux  http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3647
NBU Installation Guide for Windows  http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3648

There are upgrade chapters in each of these guides that describes what can or cannot be done.
